Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Morissette

Hi Jessica, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

My entrepreneurial journey began at the start of the pandemic. After nearly seven years working in hospitality as a Front Office Manager and Sales Coordinator, I was laid off due to the unforeseen challenges of COVID-19. In that moment, I knew I had to adapt quickly.

A pivotal conversation with my oldest sister, who had recently become a Virtual Assistant, planted the idea of running my own business. Initially, I doubted my ability to pursue this path, but curiosity got the better of me. I began researching and eventually enrolled in a Virtual Assistant (VA) course. By the end of 2020, I founded JM Virtual Solutions, LLC, now known as Smart Social Society™.

At first, I offered general virtual assistant services, unsure of my ideal niche. After months of experimenting and working with a variety of clients, I narrowed my focus to Social Media Marketing, which aligned with my pursuit of a Master of Science degree in the field.

I’ve invested countless hours learning everything I can about social media through courses, books, and hands-on testing of strategies. My background in hospitality, which emphasized personalized service and understanding client needs, has become a foundational element of my social media management approach. I tailor strategies to each client’s unique vision and goals.

Today, I run a thriving social media management and strategy business, empowering service-based business owners to confidently market themselves online with goal-driven strategies that transcend beyond trends and tactics. The journey has been anything but easy; each year in business brings new challenges. However, I firmly believe that while business never gets easier, we become better at navigating the obstacles we face.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

No, it hasn’t been smooth. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced numerous challenges that forced me to grow in ways I never expected.

One of the biggest hurdles was the uncertainty and self-doubt that came with transitioning from a stable job to running my own business. It was terrifying at first, and imposter syndrome often crept in. But I’m driven by my goals, and I was determined to make this work, despite the fear.

Another challenge was balancing my business with pursuing my master’s degree. Juggling coursework, client projects, and business development often felt overwhelming, but my long-term vision kept me motivated.

Ultimately, every challenge became an opportunity for growth. I believe that entrepreneurship requires a special kind of resilience. You’ll get knocked down repeatedly, but what matters is your willingness to keep getting back up.

At Smart Social Society™, I specialize in social media management and strategy, helping service-based business owners confidently market themselves online. I offer a range of services, including comprehensive social media strategy development, content creation, and community engagement.

Social media is a bridge that connects businesses with the people they love serving. My goal is to help clients build that bridge and attract leads without having to be constantly tied to their social media accounts.

What sets me apart is my personalized approach. I don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions; I take the time to deeply understand my clients’ brands, goals, and audiences. This allows me to create strategies that resonate with their core values and drive real results.

I also use a content funnel approach, incorporating marketing psychology to target different buyer types and guide them through each stage of the customer journey. This ensures that my clients see engagement, growth, and results that align with their business objectives.

What I’m most proud of is empowering my clients to feel confident in their marketing efforts. I help them build a social media presence that not only represents their brand but also drives sustainable success.
