Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada June Totten
Hi Jada June, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was 10 years old, I started horseback riding in California with the help of my nanny who taught me how to tie goats, run barrels, and pole bend. I got into Junior High School Rodeo in sixth grade and absolutely loved it. Rodeo wasn’t the only sport I enjoyed though. I also played basketball, baseball, soccer, volleyball, and swam. During my sixth grade year, my hometown was hit by the Valley Fire, which destroyed my home. Thankfully, my horses and dogs were safe.
After the fire, my family and I moved to Eagle, Idaho. It was a big change, but it turned out to be great for my rodeo career with more opportunities to compete. I also joined the Idaho High School Rodeo for six years and even served as their State Secretary for one year and State President for two years.
After high school, I went to Tarleton State University where I currently rodeoing for their college team.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Rodeo life isn’t always smooth sailing. If everything always went perfectly, everyone would be doing it. Taking care of my horses is always a challenge. They manage to get hurt or run into unexpected problems. One time, I bought a super talented dun horse. At her very first barrel race, she contracted EHV-1. It was touch and go, but after two years of rehab, she made her way back to the arena, although she only recovered to 90% of her pre-virus state. Throughout my years in rodeo, I’ve faced many setbacks with my horses, which have made achieving my rodeo dreams a bit tough.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a 19-year-old college rodeo athlete at Tarleton University in my junior year. I absolutely love competing in barrel racing, goat tying, and breakaway. My horses mean everything to me, and rodeo is my true passion. I also run a clothing brand called Rodeo Trippin, designed especially for rodeo athletes like myself. I started this journey four years ago, and now you can find our gear in ranch stores and online. I love sharing my rodeo adventures on TikTok and Instagram to give everyone a glimpse into this incredible lifestyle. What makes me different is my authenticity – I’m all about being real and showing the world the true me.
