Today we’d like to introduce you to Delphi Glenn
Hi Delphi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Singing was one of my earliest discovered passions and it came about when I was 6. I always was an entertainer and loved being the center of attention, performing theatrically, dancing or talking! From ages 6 to 12 I was very bullied in school. I grew up in a white neighborhood and received rasist comments and got beaten by classmates. I changed schools almost every year but never fit in. All the time though music was a reliable companion and it got me through the many hardships I went through as a child. I’ve never let go of that connection and always involve myself with musical projects. I’m so happy to say that now at 28, I partly live off my music!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No way. For 99,99% of the people pursuing a career in music it is a long and bumpy road to success. First of all I think it’s important to define what your definition of success is. If you knew starting out that it would take 5-15 years of hard work before you can get recognition or financial stability, would you still try? Most people get discouraged when things don’t go as planned. Set yourself up for success. With this I mean set a bar for yourself, take it step by step, in between scheduled work recharge your energy doing other things you really enjoy. Take yourself and your goals seriously but at the same time find a way to have fun with it. Prepare yourself that It’s gonna take time and that not everyone will love what you do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My name is Delphi Glenn. I am currently living in Malmö, Swe. Malmö is close to the Danish capital Copenhagen, where I am currently part time employed as a waitress. As musicians and independents, many of us do different things and have different talents to make it work financially. In my case I have great social skills, love working night time and to be where the action is.
I spread out my projects and do everything from backup singing, writing music for other artists, working as a studio musician, waiter and star my own gigs. The variety of workplaces suits me. I love to spend long days in the studio, creating magic. I also love being on bigger stages with thousands watching as well as having more intimate gigs with smaller audiences. Working in a restaurant is a huge contrast from this but I get to make people happy and serve. I enjoy this lifestyle cause It’s super enthralling and also very humbling.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I have no idea. Nothing would surprise me anymore haha. But when it comes to myself and the future of my artistry I believe consistency is key. I believe if you stay true to your goals and your passion, it will pay off. People are always going to want to support things they believe in. Firstly you must believe in yourself and your dream enough to pass the first test: Not giving up when it gets hard.
