Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Parker
Hi Cole, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began making jewelry about nine years ago, after a friend suggested I find a hobby to help deal with my severe anxiety. I have Complex PTSD, meaning I’ve been through quite a lot, so my anxiety can paralyze me easily. I spent weeks learning each new technique until I perfected it, and soon became obsessed. After several years I began selling my work, and people loved it! I opened an online shop and sold there, along with at markets and fairs. Now I not only make jewelry as a job, I also create to relieve stress. I’m fascinated by unique beads and love making colorful statement jewelry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been easy. I have very severe chronic pain which never ever stops, diagnosed as fibromyalgia, in addition to my C-PTSD. There are more diagnoses too. These add up to make me permanently disabled. I can work a little, but that’s it. If I overdo it, I fall apart mentally and am in excruciating pain. So when im trying to get ready for a market, and I have a lot to do, I often just prioritize as I can’t do it all. Additionally, I often just stare at my beads wishing I could make something, bursting with ideas, but can’t really move due to the pain. Everything takes longer to get done and it’s difficult when I see others juggling everything perfectly.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create unique beaded statement jewelry. I love bright colors and sparkle. My jewelry is fun, bold, and although it’s not for everyone, my technique is obsessively perfect, with only high quality materials. Those that do love my jewelry, however, really fall in love with it.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love collaborative projects-please email me or DM me on instagram to discuss further. A great way to support any artist is to buy their work, or just share and comment on social media. I truly appreciate every order I receive!
