Today we’d like to introduce you to Cloud
Cloud, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Sure. I’ll start with my background. I was born in Colombia and was adopted and brought to the US as a baby. Cloud is short for Claudia which is my birth name.
I’ve always had a love for singing and dancing. Growing up I was in choirs, school productions, dance teams, and more.
Shortly after graduating high school I moved from Los Angeles to Oakland and started writing and recording my own songs. I also became one of the founding staff members at Oakland School for the Arts. Since then, I’ve officially released an EP, two singles, and two music videos, and have featured on various projects with other music artists. I’ve also designed and launched two collections so far, of apparel and home goods, featuring aspects of my songs. My “Lifted and Gifted” collection is based off of my most recent single “Super Natural”. I highlighted that lyric from the song to pay homage to the support and encouragement I’ve received from family, friends, and my fans.
I’m deeply grateful for the many exciting experiences being a singer and performer have brought me. From small cafes to large theaters, performing alongside local artists and building memorable moments with some incredible musical icons – I have had the pleasure and honor of sharing the most real parts of me on stage, and being received with nothing but love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It by far has not been an easy road. I struggled with my identity – which for a long time, (until I decided on Cloud ) held me back from being able to present myself in a way that really resonated with me.
I’m also the mother of three amazing kids, and balancing a music career, and parenting, can feel very challenging because my time, energy, and focus need to be in both places at the same time.
I have had to learn the hard lessons of – not every opportunity is a good one. I’ve had instances where someone I wanted to explore working on music with, well their intentions were not genuine and I had to look out for attacks against my character, my prosperity, and my sense of self & self value. I had to fight many, many times to not give up, and to continue believing in my ability to create music I would be proud to share with the world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I describe myself as a music artist. I pride myself in being able to connect and move with music so I can find and express the energy of the sounds.
I enjoy being in front of an audience and connecting with the crowd. I love the electricity that’s created when the energy in the room becomes aligned and the audience is all the way pulled in.
I also model for a few very creative and talented clothing designers, and have been filmed for two movies. I hope to keep growing, and exploring in these lanes as well.
Some people describe me as a shorty who’s spiritual (I am an Ifa devotee) and sweet – but also say I am fiesty and should be a comedian so I’m learning to lean into those aspects of myself when I’m performing.
I am most proud when I know I have inspired someone, especially a young person or someone looking for hope. That is a blessing I am truly humbled by.
What makes you happy?
Singing to my kids makes me happy and singing along with them makes me even happier. That’s probably the most comfortable space and company I can be in to just let it out . Everything – I’m talking fully blown Whitney Houston to good night/morning songs to silly made up songs.. those freestyle sessions are amazing haha.
