Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Baker
Brittney , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Born and raised in Maui Hawaii, I consider myself an island girl with a traveling spirit and creative eye for photography. I started my journey in this industry as a model with a special love and focus for high fashion and runway. I then gradually shifted into being behind the camera and starting my own business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there is ever as clear and smooth path when you are on your true path. That being said there have been ups and downs in building my business and name over the years. Some struggles have included the Maui photography market being mostly family, wedding couples etc, when my true passion has been editorial and high fashion creative work. I absolutely love capturing families and weddings and am blessed to be in one of the best spots in the world for that category of work, but making a living off of fashion photography is my main goal at the end of the day.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I love doing with photography is taking an idea or a brand and shaking up their content a bit to create something new that turns heads for them. I think me starting as a model and being on many different sides of the camera during shoots over the years has helped me step into many shoes and acquire a bit of knowledge to buddle together and set my work apart from others.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I think one of the biggest lessons many of us including myself learned during the year of 2020 and on was to remember to slow down. Before that year and the covid shutdown I was constantly working, and once the world shut down I was able to step back and realize how important taking breaks and taking care of yourself and your body as its your main tool.
