Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Valentino.
Hi Brianne , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began in my early years beginning with a love of photography that was fostered from being gifted a camera. From then I loved photographing nature and began to take photography classes in high school. From that point on I decided to major in photography in college. I went on to pursue a BFA in photography and won the area award in my class for my senior thesis. During a pivotal time in my life dealing with sickness in my family, both my aunt and grandma were diagnosed with cancer. I needed an escape from reality. I began to create these highly textured abstract paintings to relax my mind. After their deaths, I realized that this time in my life has sent me on this path which brought me a new outlet to funnel my emotions into. I invested into a color theory course to further my knowledge. Now I have work in multiple galleries in NJ and looking to expand,
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had to transition from a very saturated photography industry to working within a fine art industry. Learning how to work with galleries and approach businesses has been very fulfilling.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in highly textured vibrant abstract paintings that set me apart from others due to the use of color. All of my work has metallic and neon incorporated. Murals are becoming a vital part of my business currently. Recently I won RAM Gallery’s mural contest which enabled me to create a mural in the entryway into their gallery. I am currently in three different shows around New Jersey as well. After creating an entire series of three dimensional paintings, I continued my practice by learning about creating layers in artwork to give it depth. My new series involves the use of catalyst tools to create layered acrylic paintings. My primary subject matter is abstract because I feel the need to express myself through brushstrokes and mark making, which allow myself to clear my mind. Each brushstroke and color choice is based upon my mood which varies daily. The intensity and technique used varies each day and can include posca markers for fine detailing near the end of each creation.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the arts industry is going to get bigger in more areas between murals, fine art, galleries. I think galleries are going to relook at their business models.
