Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Clarke
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started making wigs my senior year of college. It was a newish craze back in 2013, u part wigs and closures. This was back when you could get great quality bundles and lace pieces for less than $200. I made wigs and u part units for my friends over the years but i was hyper focused on putting my degree to use. I didnt think I would be growing a business out of making wigs. I turned my hair hobby into an official business in 2021. I’ve taken the last 10 years to not only master my craft but develop a business that allows wig wearers and upcoming wig makers to learn as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth. I think any business owner will tell you that growing a business is the most work. It is literally easier to work for someone else. My biggest struggle initially was marketing my business. I always said “well the work will speak for itself” but in the age of social media, you as the business owner have to do the talking. The posting. The selling. The spending. The research. The everything. Its rewarding in the end but going through it is hard. You have to choose your business and the life you want for yourself every single day no matter what is going on in your life. No one will go harder than you, no one will fight for your business and your dream harder than you will!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“I see myself as an artist in wig styling, where I transform basic materials into something spectacular. I bring my vision to life through creative designs.
Ashbelle Wigs is the brand and an experience, specializing in comprehensive wig maintenance and repair services such as Wig Spas, Wig Restoration, Custom Coloring, and Custom Wig Construction, among others. Our most sought-after services are Wig Restoration and Wig Resurrection.
Wig Restoration allows clients to rejuvenate their existing wigs by altering lace, color, cut, or style, transforming them from worn-out to like-new. On the other hand, Wig Resurrection involves completely reconstructing old wigs with renewed lace and fresh caps.
One standout feature of my brand that Im really proud of is its focus on wig maintenance, making it one of the few Black-owned wig brands in Brooklyn specializing in repairs. Wigs are expensive and its important to show women how to stretch their money once its invested in a good quality wig. We cater to a diverse clientele of women, including many from outside our community who struggle with hair loss. They appreciate not only our repair expertise but also the care techniques we teach to preserve their investments.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Find me on my socials or email me! Im always looking to collaborate with brands that cater to the beauty aspect of self care for women. I dream to work with a company for women suffering with hair loss or specifically patients undergoing chemo. Young to Old.
