Today we’d like to introduce you to Anita Gail Jones
Hi Anita Gail, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey as a writer began in early childhood, at home with our parents nurturing our creative sides for me and my two sisters. I’ve always enjoyed drawing, painting and writing. At the age of five, I sat in the back of my sister, Betty’s 5th grade classroom with teacher, Mrs. Clark at Hazard Laboratory School in Albany, Georgia. Mrs. Clark was the first person outside our family to encourage the artist in me.
Once I was able to string together sentences I became a writer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Perhaps it’s the Gemini in me, but I’ve always had a plethora of interests, and for a while I viewed that as a liability; longing to have one burning passion that I could follow. It took years for me to see this as an asset; a deep well from which I could draw many buckets of creative juices.
Writing my debut novel, The Peach Seed, showed me just how beneficial it is to have many interests and a love of research.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Specializing in oral tradition storytelling since the early 90s goes hand-in-hand with my work as a writer; one hand washes the other. Being able to look at story inside out from oral and literary angles is a plus.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk is necessary to growth. whether it’s taking a chance on trying a different genre in writing or a different medium in visual art, being willing to jump can lead to unimaginable places.
