Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Steele
Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When our youngest son was born in 2009 with an extra 21st chromosome (Down Syndrome), our lives shifted. He has changed our lives dramatically for the better! Our older boys have grown into amazing people, and as a family, we have changed our perspectives and learned to truly live for what matters.
When Jake was a baby, he developed eczema all over his body. We visited the pediatrician and dermatologist, and over the next couple of years, we tried every prescription and cream they could throw at him and NOTHING worked! One day, my sister told me a friend used Goat Milk Soap on her son, which helped. I immediately went on Amazon and purchased a bar. Jake’s skin looked so much better for the first time in years. The rest is history!
We already had goats as pets and spent the next year building a soap shop with a milk room and perfecting our recipes. Our goats went to work, and so did I! Steele Family Farm launched our website on April 1, 2014, and we celebrate ten years this year! We started with six scents of soap and lotion. We now have a wide range of goat milk baths and body products on the farm. I continuously research and come up with new recipes and products. Goat milk has NATURAL healing benefits, and we are blessed to have found something that helps so many people with skin conditions.
Our top-selling product is our Magnesium Body Butter, which offers natural pain relief for many. Customers strive to look for more natural products, and we work hard to fulfill that need.
We sell nationwide online and in retail stores. We also ship to Europe and Canada. It is very fulfilling to hear from customers who love our products and have seen a change in their skin. We have something for everyone!
Our boys have grown up working hard on the farm, and we are very proud of our accomplishments. I make all products, and it takes all of us to keep the farm running smoothly. I have a few high schoolers and a teacher who help package and label products for shipping. Every product is made on the farm from start to finish.
I graduated from Park University in Parkville, Missouri, with a degree in Journalism. I worked through college, working full time and taking as many hours as possible. It took me longer than most, but I did it, and I believe that perseverance and challenges made me who I am today.
My experiences shaped me to strive for the best customer service possible and to work hard to keep my customers loyal to our brand.
I spend hours researching and formulating recipes, and then I create. It only sometimes works out, but I try repeatedly until I get it right.
For folks who are early in their journey, I would tell them not to give up. When you find something you love to do and are passionate about, keep working at it until you get it right.
I LOVE what I do, making all the late nights and long hours worth it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a learning process over the years. From keeping a healthy herd to finding new recipes, it is a struggle until you get it right.
We struggled to get supplies during the COVID-19 years and had to change some of our recipes and packaging. Thankfully, other than the much higher prices on ingredients, we are able to make all of our products now without waiting.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am not a creative person by nature and have had to study and learn the processes of soapmaking and decoration by trial and error. It is not as easy as it looks! By nature I am a lover of animals and kids. I truly enjoy taking care of my farm animals and spending time with them in the pasture. When we milk each morning before the sun comes up and I pour that warm milk into jars, I feel accomplished and excited about the products I will make with it.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Every single product is made right here on the farm. We even make and print our own labels! When you purchase from Steele Family Farm you can be confident you are getting a product truly made with love and happiness!
