Today we’d like to introduce you to Amara Nogee
Hi Amara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved to draw. It has been a steady source of passion and peace at all ages. From a childhood hobby, to a college major in Fine Arts and ultimately a career in Graphic Design, my story has been centered around art. I began to lose sight of the joy in it as work became consuming so I started a doodle blog back in 2013 as a way to navigate thoughts. There is joy in doodling, a mindless calm as your pencil flows. My silly blog became a passion project as I transformed it into the doodle shoppe in 2021. The doodle shoppe is a space to pause from life’s to-dos and embrace the art of the doodle! The shoppe includes a collection of original graphics on a variety of products through redbubble.com. I hope to grow the shoppe as I continue my story.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a slow road. My ambition is often stifled by my energy. Working full time, it can be a struggle to find the motivation to “work” on outside projects. I constantly want to add graphics and products to the doodle shoppe but am lucky if I manage to add one per year. Keeping up with social media has been a struggle as well but I have to remind myself to go at my own pace and not lose sight in the fun of it all.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professionally, I am a Senior Arts Manager and Graphic Designer. Personally, I am an artist. I create in a variety of media. Whether drawing, painting, printmaking or designing digitally, there is a love behind it all. I probably specialize in portraiture. I am most proud of a printmaking series I created in college called iNpulse. This series features portraits of jazz musicians and their tones. I was able to merge my loves of art and music which is what made the project so special.
There is also pride in freelance branding work. Helping clients bring their visions to life gives me immense gratification. I think what sets me apart is the level of thought and care that goes into each piece. I like to get a deep understanding of clients and subjects before the artsy magic happens. In my own designs, I hope what sets them apart are elements of whimsy and joy.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would like to thank canvas rebel for the continued opportunity to share my story and my doodle shoppe at AmaraNogee.Redbubble.com and @the.doodleshoppe on IG.
