Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Marie Campbell

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

San Maris was established in 2016 in my Brooklyn apartment. Initially envisioned as a skincare line, I discovered a passion for aromas and their ability to evoke nostalgic memories through scent. As a musician, this resonated with me in a way similar to writing a song; it came naturally to me. In 2018, I pursued courses in perfumery, marking the beginning of my journey with San Maris. I chose to start with candles because of my love for home fragrances and the atmosphere they create, from the ambient glow to the captivating scents that fill a space.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

It has not been a smooth road; I’ve faced many challenges with my health since launching San Maris. As a Solo entrepreneur, I run the entire operation, so if i’m in the hospital, the brand suffers. I feel like I lose momentum and to start from the beginning every time I’m out of the hospital. I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune disease, such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and ankloysing spondilitis, all which require extensive time in hospitals to receive proper medication.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

With a background in music and as a celebrity makeup artist / men’s groomer, I’ve mastered using all my senses in tandem. creating candles and breaking down fragrance notes is like composing a song, with multiple layers and complexities. I still use my makeup artistry skills to collaborate with photographers, models and creatives to build out the brand.

It’s been a pleasure to be an artist, visualizing the world through color, scent and melody.

If you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. You have nothing to lose, and you will be surprised at how optimistic people can be about your art.
