Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Hargis
Hi Aidan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been playing music since I was 6 years old, and been playing live since I was 16. I started at the School Of Rock at age 14, formed my first band at 16, and signed with a record label for the first time at 22. The genesis for Conway itself came in my junior year of college, when my previous project fell apart. It was born out of the idea that if you want something done right, you do it yourself. The first EP and split single were released independently, while the next one came out on April 10th, 2020, with COVID pretty much torpedoing any possibility of being able to legitimately support the album with tours and media. Now we’ve finally been able to make new music and release it with a good support system. Our release is being finalized as we speak, and then we can focus on taking over the world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our biggest hurdle came in 2020. Our former label had scheduled our debut album for release on April 10th, 2020. We were supposed to play local shows for a couple of months, and were in talks to go on tour that summer, there was a video planned for the lead single that was also released. Obviously, that didn’t end up happening because of COVID, and any real way to support the album was ruined. This was devastating, and because two of our band members are high-risk for COVID, it was difficult to play shows for the next couple of years. We were finally able to write new music, find a solid distribution system, and line everything up in the past six months, but it was a rough couple of years for us there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Conway specializes in combining 2000s alternative stylings and big choruses with a modern sound that uses more synthesizers and electronic elements. We are also known for our energetic and engaging live shows that usually leave us drenched in sweat. We’re most proud of our ability to weather the storm of the last few years and keep our eyes on creating a band that people love and care about. Our sound leaves us in a genre of our own, guitar-driven pop rock that no one right now is making.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The thing I like most about our city is probably the public transit system. I don’t own a car, and they make it incredibly easy to get around and exist when relying on the CTA to get around. My least favorite thing is the parking system. It is incredibly hard to make sure that you’re not going to get a ticket for parking in a random open spot on a side street.
