Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Shelby
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
To say it was easy is an understatement lol. As a kid I always heard numerous times that God would use me to do great things one day. And over the years I had work hard and hustle, I call it my in-between time. During that time I suffered mentally, emotionally and physically. I went through many ups and downs. I’ve dealt with rejection issues, feeling abandoned because I was adopted, not good at having friendships because I was emotionally damaged, weight issues etc. But the one thing in all of those experiences that never changed was my faith in God. That is the ultimate reason why I am where I am today. The older I became, I realized that in order for me to grow and flourish I needed to be healed and made whole, so that one day I could be effective and not affected. I understood that this would take time and effort on my part and I had to be willing to have hard conversations and confront those areas in my life that were broken. Over that last two years I have been doing my work and an my life is on the right path of healing and wholeness. I would encourage anyone who has felt broken in life to take courage that what you won’t always be in that place. One day you will experience the Goodness of God in your life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road for me was never smooth, but to be honest no one’s journey is ever smooth. Life is supposed to teach us lessons that will make us better that we can pass on our experiences to others so they can overcome their problems. One of the struggles that I had to deal with growing up was feeling abandoned and rejected because in was adopted. I never knew my father and I didn’t have the best relationship with my mother or biological family. My adoptive family was wonderful to me but I always knew there was apart of me missing. For years it plagued me cause it affected every friendship and relationship I had. If a friend had to move or anything of that nature, to me it would feel like my world was shattering or make me very distant and withdrawn. This went on even past college. One day I realized that I needed someone to help me heal from my past issues so that I could fully embrace my future and those that I would meet along the way. Another struggle for me in life was my weight issues, which was a result of being emotionally broken. I’ve always dealt with my weight problems for years and as an adult I noticed that if I didn’t make a decision, I wasn’t not gonna be around to enjoy it, so I decided to have weight loss surgery to jumpstart my process. I have made good improvements but I still have a ways to go. Ultimately I am in a place to take my life back one step at a time.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my every day work life I am a family and community engagement liaison for The School District of Philadelphia. But after that I am a traveling praise and worship leader and preacher of the gospel. Most times I am singing and preaching at my home church, Beloved St. John Evangelistic Church, but then I have been given the opportunity to travel and use my God given gifts all over. On a weekly basis you will find me ministering out somewhere or supporting my fellow comrades who are doing the same things. To add to that, I have found a new vice in creating cooking content and content of the different places I get to sing and preach, for my social media platforms and it is definitely becoming a hobby that I never knew I would love. I’m proud that I get the opportunity to share my gift with the world and minister to the needs of people. When I sing about God its not about me, it is all about Him and my prayer is that God would use me and that people are blessed by what they see and feel the genuineness coming from my heart. The one thing that sets me apart from others, I believe is that I’m genuine and no matter what I’m doing I’m going to give it my all every time and that I love to have fun at the end of the day.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
So I’m a big kid at heart and I am a huge Disney fan. As a kid I would watch every Disney movie, old and new. If you were to ask me anything about Disney, I could definitely tell you. when I was a kid and when I graduated 8th grade, I got the opportunity to go to Disney World. which was one of the highlights of my life. I got to stay at the all star sports hotel, visit mickey’s house, watch the parade with different Disney characters etc.. It was such a fun time, and as a full fledged adult I want to go back and make new memories at Disney World.
