Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Vaughn
Hi Aaron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started skateboarding at 13 years old. I ended up taking it serious at about 15. Received my first sponsorship at 17 years old. I moved back and forth from Chicago to Indianapolis for years. When I turned 22, I made the decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue skateboarding further. Moved back home at 24 and worked at my local skateboard shop named RISE Skateboard Shop for a year and a half. Started my own skate shop with my friend at 26 years old. 6 years later, here we are!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything has been smooth, considering. When covid hit in 2020, business sky rocketed but has since then been on a slow decline. Skateboarding is very volatile. It can be hard to stay up with trends in skateboarding because everything is ever changing. We just do our best to keep our finger on the pulse.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a skateboarder. It’s been my life for almost two decades. I love to create art and run businesses. I’m proud of being able to serve like minded folks in my community and be of service to my group of loved ones. I don’t think I’m better than the next man nowadays but what sets me apart is doing everything from the heart.. being genuine and pure.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
God and my Mother, first and foremost. My good friend and mentor Buddy Best deserves all praise. Ben Olynik that owns Grand Collection in NYC, he’s been a great mentor. This community we work to serve skateboarding to, a big inspiration. Julian Derosas, my old employee who has played a huge role in getting VERSED up and started.
