Our story on scaling up is a story of learning how to be new at something. We were stylists for about six years, and in that time we had gotten a good client base, we had refined our skills working behind the chair and had felt like we were at our ceiling until we discovered the art of hair extensions. In our industry you are taught to be a jack of all trades and a master of none so it was very against the grain to niche down and choose to serve a very specific client base. Read more>>

Bloom & Ivy began out of a desire to use our time and energy for good. We’ve always been makers and doers, and initially floral arrangement was a fun, low-pressure creative outlet. When the pandemic hit and we watched our friends and neighbors struggling with still wanting to make their special life celebrations feel beautiful and meaningful with so many new obstacles, so we decided to see if we could help. We shadowed a friend who was in the event florals industry and we did a few low-risk events until we felt that our skills and offerings were meeting our personal expectations for clients. Read more>>

I was an associate financial advisor working in a firm with 3 partners and about 10 advisors in total, at a practice that had been my professional home for almost 13 years. Everyone had worked really hard to get where they were, grinding it out 70-80+ hours per week until finally getting enough clients and enough money under management to start thinking about cutting back… Read more>>

In 2018 we started our micro farm and blacksmithing adventure by moving from the city to a 1.5 acre residential property in a small town. We turned our garage into a blacksmith studio and planted tons of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. The next year we started selling at a farmers market at a tiny scale. We just kept expanding the gardens over the next 3 years. During this time we built up clientele and started working with a local restaurant. All the while we were looking at larger acreage across several states to scale up. Read more>>

I believe alot in slow, focused and, consistent growth. Scaling too fast or failure to scale due to demand can be devastating. The Savory Spread started as a side hustle for me back in March of 2019 and in almost 4 years we have learned the skills to build a business, retain clients, slowly add new product offerings to the market, and pivot when necessary,. We started very small, and maybe had 5 orders a week through the first year in 2019. Read more>>
