We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

Tor’s Tonics is a West Michigan-based startup ignited by the passion of a tea lover who wanted to make something equally delicious and beneficial. I grew up listening to jazz music. My parents played some of it, but it was also largely self-discovery. While most kids were listening to pop hits in the late ’90s and early ’00s, I was honing in on Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, and Ornette Coleman, among others. But when I shared my passion with others, I frequently heard that jazz was not for them. Read more>>

I set out to make a goth/alternative salon that was LGBTQ friendly and catered to counter and subcultures. Many places that do this have a ‘hint’ of this in their business. We’re full throttle. Rude, crude, obnoxious, and our genuine selves. By destroying and ignoring the client/employee barrier, we create an environment that allows our stylists to be their true and authentic self, which is often more comfortable and welcoming to our clients. What you see is what you get. I often tell people “We’re a dive bar that does hair”. Read more>>

Growing up I was generally a very healthy kid. Aside from the occasional bump, bruise or scrape, I really didn’t get sick. A lot of that changed when I went to college. I’m a sinner saved by His Grace. I walked off of an operating table once and I couldn’t walk when I got there. I am a miracle several times over and so….I owe. I owe God. I owe my fellow mankind and I owe myself to maximize the many extra chances I have been given. I continue to rise but only because of Him. I rejoice in His splendor not mine. I am redeemed. I am His. I’ve always been good at art. Drawing has been my favorite and I can make a drawing look like real life. I’ve always had that gift. I was passionate about art in high school, where I won lots of awards for my drawings, paintings and photography. When I started college, I also started to lose focus and passion for my art. I was distracted my alcohol and men and it took me longer than the average person to graduate. I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of fine arts degree and a minor in art history. Read more>>

In 2022, my life took a significant turn. Despite seemingly having it all – the big house, stable career in corporate America, and a long-term marriage with great kids – I was haunted by a pervasive sense of dissatisfaction, that something was always missing. It dawned on me that I was living someone else’s life, shaped by external expectations and societal norms, and ignoring the inner child within, screaming to be heard. As a child, I dreamed of being a performer and living a big, bold life. Read more>>

I grew up in a lower-income family and struggled to connect with peers due to having ADHD and other social issues. There were many times I felt unconnected and wanted to drop out of school. Francis Codecido

Hi my name is Francis Codecido, I am a dancer and pole instructor, my mission is to help others achieve their goals, have a space to de-stress and exercise in a space where sport and dance come together to allow you to express yourself freely, gain more confidence and have fun, my way to do this is through pole sport and pole dance classes, It is funny because I come from a family where the 80% of them are teachers, when I was a child I used to say that I would never be a teacher like them, I did not have patience to teach others, until I found pole dancing and realized all the good you can do to others through pole, in fact, I did not seek to be a teacher, things just happened, that opportunity arose and I began to teach some classes, the students were very happy because I had a great ability to teach, and when I realized how I could help others to achieve I fell in love with teaching, helping others to feel good and gain more confidence in themselves.
