We’ve always tried to ask the questions that matter but that are too awkward for people to ask their friends, family and coworkers without seeming dramatic. One of those questions is about mission and purpose – when’s the last time you asked a friend what their mission was? Too often we don’t talk about our own missions and don’t ask those close to us about theirs with the result being that our missions remain secret. Are you just a doctor or are you a doctor who wants to be there for patients in the way you wished your father’s doctor had been? People have incredible and meaningful missions, and we hope our conversations asking folks about their mission can inspire more such conversations in your life.

I’ve always been fascinated with food – not just the consumption of it, but its provenance, the process of creating certain dishes, the impact it has on a culture. When I went vegetarian in 2008, doing so opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities. I began to experiment with foods I’d never before tried and new ways of preparing them. Avocado. is the result of many years of studying and experimentation with vegetarian cuisines, and I want to share my perspective with other folks, because we all interpret cooking through different lenses. I was gifted the talent of being an artist, along with the other creative individuals in my immediate family, for as far back as I can remember. Art has always been a part of who I am, whether it be through song writing, singing, rapping, fashion, or drawing. In elementary, I was selected along side 4 classmates to paint a mural on the side of our school, Alton Elementary. Although I always knew that I could create, my interest in taking art seriously begun my junior year of high school. Read more>>

I grew up the same way MOST of you did. I was taught to work hard at what I did but received ZERO education on health at home and at school. Reagan Sanai Essentials is a labor of love. My daughter has beautiful hair that is naturally fine and curly. Finding products that worked with her hair without irritating her sensitive eczema skin, or leaving her hair dry and brittle was an epic struggle. In June 2019, my partner Tyler and I decided to take the biggest risk of our lives… something I personally had been dreaming of for years. We both committed to a goal of saving $75,000 so we could quit our corporate jobs and live out our dream of traveling the world. We had no expectations of what our travels would bring, we just knew that we did not want to wait until retirement to see the world. So after 3 years of sacrifice, we finally exceeded our savings goal and set off on the open road. Read more>>

Established in 2019 by Asheville natives Heather and Matt Wright, Provisions Mercantile was inspired by my grandmother, Claudene Mchone, who created a small general store in the basement of her West Asheville home in the 1960s. I curate and design art boxes to inspire kids to create without the worry of stress or mess for parents. I originally thought of the idea for Tiny Easel while on maternity leave, 3 years ago, with my son, George, while home for the summer with all 3 kids. I couldn’t help my kids with painting and crafts to occupy them with creative, non-screen time activities and it was becoming stressful trying to balance it all. Read more>>

My story is pretty unique. I never had a love or passion for fitness. In fact growing up in the inner city I really lacked the knowledge and had no examples of what good health was. I grew up with asthma and have dealt with my own health challenges all my life. I feared of long term health issues if I didn’t make a change. I started my business, Alacritous Solutions, after leaving spending about 10 years in the corporate technology space. While I learned so much about business and how businesses operate, I was not good at the political game and found myself stuck.
