Our stories are often hard to understand until folks understand our true motivations, our true drivers and the stories behind why our mission or purpose truly matters to us. We’ve asked some inspiring folks from the community to talk to us about why they do what they do and have shared some of our favorite responses below.

When I started Native Pilates I had been teaching for 10 years in various cities throughout my career in Chicago, New York, and Nashville. I knew what worked and what didn’t, what I liked and didn’t like. I also wanted to bring this form of movement to my hometown. So then I started thinking about a name. As Nashville has grown, being born in Nashville and to also live in the area is rare nowadays, we call ourselves Nashville Natives. So I decided to name the studio Native Pilates in honor of starting my roots here and being born in Nashville. Read more>>

When I moved to Milan to complete my master’s degree in management of luxury goods, I was struck by the pride that the words “made in Italy” inspired in those around me. My business started as a hobby. While my husband was deployed and I had just become a new mom. I felt there were so many labels thrust upon me in that period of my life; wife, military wife, dependent, mom, etc. It was a very strange place to be in, not having my own identity. I’ve always been a creative person and felt myself when I was making things. To pass the time of a year-long deployment and give myself some “me time” outside of brand-new motherhood, I would create. During the summer of my 20th birthday I went to GNC to find an energy supplement to help me tackle my exhaustion of studying long hours and being your average sleep deprived college student. After taking what I thought was a normal women’s energy vitamin I suddenly felt my throat closing. As my life flashed before my eyes I briefly remember seeing the fear on my grandmothers face as 911 was rushing epinephrin through my veins. After being on a ventilator and in a coma for 1 week, I knew that my life was spared because my purpose was greater. Read more>>
