We recently connected with Zykeria Parker and have shared our conversation below.
Zykeria, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
The legacy that I’m trying to build is that I am the one in my family, who made the sacrifices and the compromises to break generational curses. What I think people will say about me when I am gone is that not only was I a kind hearted person but I worked hard for everything that I got. I want to be a very important and an inspirational factor in my family. One thing I inspire to do is to make sure that future generations after me are benefiting from generational wealth I want them to be able to have different opportunities at success that I didn’t have and that my parents and grandparents etc, didn’t have. This is why I’m striving so hard to do what I’m doing and also investing into different ventures.

Zykeria, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Ah yes! The back story about me. The way on how I got into the beauty industry was just being a young teen girl, who always wanted to look pretty. I grew up in a small town and we didn’t have much to do, with the fact that we have this amazing thing called technology, I watched YouTube videos of girls doing their hair and make up and would always be interested.
My first experience with lashes started off as strips and then I wanted to try “individual lashes” the reason I put quotes around this is because I got them done at a nail shop for the first time and they weren’t individuals as how we see them now they were more so like clusters. So thanks to the lash Gods for advancement ! I always loved having my lashes done and just throwing on some lip gloss and being done.
When I was a sophomore in college, I wanted a way to make extra money without having to actually go get a job, but lashing was harder than what it seemed and so I decided to focus on schooling got me a actual part-time job working at a restaurant and I just stopped. After college it was hard for me to get a job with my degree that I felt was worth my time and expertise so I was like forget it I might as well just work for myself. I would see all the other girls on Instagram in the lash industry. I studied them and saw what they were doing in the industry and how the girls were taking the business venture as far as selling lash products and how that was changing their lives and I wanted in!
Once I got back in, I had more discipline to know that it wasn’t going to be as easy as I was thinking sometimes it would take me 6 to 8 hours to lash one person and it still wouldn’t look right! This didn’t discourage me I kept going, but of course when business is slow that does put you down a little bit and when clients would complain because I was a beginner, that did something to my self-esteem. It didn’t stop me and I kept going and now I am my biggest dream from two years ago.
I think that I am different from some of my peers because I mainly focus on customer satisfaction, and what I can do to improve not only my experience, but my customers experience. I like to offer versatility and artistry. I always ask some of my clients why do they come to me and a lot of them tell me it’s because you offer different lash styles.
I am most proud of my resilience, and the fact that I listen to my clients concerns, and I try to obtain the most professionalism. Once I tap into different business ventures with lashing, I want my customers to be heard.
I just want everyone to know that I am here to make you feel beautiful and to make you feel most confident. I also want my potential clients to know that I care about your lash health more than I care about anything else so before my services we do a consultation and we get a bit of what do you like and what you’re looking for as well as what do I feel like will be healthy and what I feel like will match your eye shape and then from there that’s when the magic is created!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A major lesson that I had to unlearn is to not to go into something for money.
Now I know that sounds crazy because that’s ultimately the goal, but you have to want to do it. Look at it as more than being a cash grab. Once you go into something so we purposely for money once things don’t go your way you begin to hate it.
Honestly, when I first started lashing, my main goal was to make money, now, don’t get me wrong that’s very much a part of it but I also love doing what I do more than me making a profit from it. It was so many nights where I cried, and felt like giving up because I wasn’t seeing money and because of the struggles I was facing, but the fact that I do love it and how I make others feel, it helps me to keep going!

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
As I said, before, I take pride in customer satisfaction, so I always make sure that my clients are heard and understood. Even though you do have some people who try to get over on you there’s also a lot of clients, who necessarily may not understand and that’s where my job to educate them comes into play. As A service industry provider sometimes we have to take a step back and not think that everyone is out to get you. Even though that is a major concern in the beauty industry that’s not the case with everybody and we have to treat everybody as such.
Within 24 to 48 hours I try to reach out to my clients especially new clients to see how their lashes are holding up and if they have any questions m, comments, or concerns. This shows that I actually do care about my clients and that I’m not only after them for money and I care about make sure that they get their moneys worth as well. This is also how to create loyalty within my clientele because they fill it so that they can trust me to voice their concerns. This doesn’t mean always giving away services for free or letting people look over your policies either. This helps create loyalty within my clientele. Also, something that I want to get better in in 2025 is offering more loyalty rewards. I’ve offered it and mention it, but I want to make it more user-friendly. This also gives me the opportunity to give back to my clients for spending their hard earned money with me.
