We were lucky to catch up with Zulma Brito recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zulma, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Picture this, you get tired of paying for nails at the nail salon spending so much money for nails to not only come out ugly, but also not shaped right, or even the design is super off. You want to save your money, so you buy some press on nails from the big franchises and then they turn out to be weak, breakable, and pop off easily. That’s why I came up with my type of press on nails. These aren’t just any press on nails, they are DURABLE, HARD TO BREAK, and LONG LASTING! Not to mention fully customizable and reusable. With pride I say that Nailed It Nails are the next best thing! From the ability to customize the design to be ANYTHING you’d like to the amount of times you can reuse them, you are in full control! Each set is made carefully with alot of attention to detail! And the best part of it all is that it’s in the comfort of your own home AND you get to save your coins too!
Zulma, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a 26-year-old mother of 4 who hated paying to get her nails done at the salon. I was very good at drawing, and I had a great eye for attention to detail, so I started creating my own nails at home. VERY shortly after the whole world shut down and now nobody was able to get to the nail salons. So, I started looking into press on nails and designing those. Little do you know they were a hit! People were skeptical at first because everyone has had such bad perceptions on press on nails but when I explained that each of my sets came with their own application kits which maximizes the longevity of the nails they just HAD to try! My application kits include a list of instructions on how to apply, nail filer, buffer, cuticle stick, AND the most powerful nail glue on the planet, ha-ha! My nails are such a problem solver because they help us woman save money, save time and be FABULOUS all in one! With easy application you will go from basic to THAT GIRL in less than 10 minutes! This is something I am most proud of. I love helping other woman feel beautiful without having to constantly break the bank, and knowing my reusable nails are providing just that makes me feel accomplished!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The longevity and creativity of my nails has definitely created an amazing reputation for my business. My nails last about 3-4 weeks on.. that’s a huge deal when it comes to press on nails! The number of texts and DM’s I get with people asking how to take them off is hilarious to me! That is a good problem to have when it comes to press on nails. We all want the nails we love to last us a while and be able to reuse those designs we fell in love with makes it that much more productive.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being a self-built business owner, you HAVE to be resilient. There are days even weeks when you have absolutely no sales, and they’re days where your phone will not stop ringing. But the most important part of it all is never giving up. You’re going to want to, you’re going to want to throw in the towel and just cry. But DON’T. It gets better, as you create awareness for your brand, you WILL get those consistent sales. I remember in the first two years it was hard for me. I had to go do pop ups, get tables in flea markets, pass out flyers, business cards, ect. in order to get my name out there. I had to constantly come up with new strategies, new ways to market my business, new ways to bring awareness to my brand. It was hard, I actually felt like giving up. Multiple times. At one point I ended up stopping and taking a few months off to redirect myself. When I did get back to it, I came back with a refreshed mind ready to work. And all because I HAD to believe in my brand. I just had to.
