We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zoey Edenholm a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zoey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
I feel as I am paving a way for more inclusivity in my motorsport industry being a female racing driver. I love being able to inspire young females and then have some to follow on social media to watch me excel through the ranks and that they are able to too. I want to be the person that I wish I had to look up to when I was younger. I like to show through my socials all the hardships and what it takes behind the scenes to be a racing driver, from the emails and media decks to actually being on the racetrack.

Zoey, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the motorsport industry at a very young age. I had family friends in karting while I was in gymnastics at the time thinking I was going to the olympics. Little did I know within the year my dream would change from going to participate in the Olympics to participating in the Indy 500. I fell in love with karting and had a need for speed at age 11. From there I was racing going up the ranks all through the United States. Around age 15, I had to make a decision if I wanted to pursue racing as a career and make the next steps into cars and there was no hesitation to say yes. I wanted to be a role model for the young generation coming through the ranks that it is possible to make it out of karting because we see fewer and fewer females make it up the ranks into cars.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time I had to pivot was pretty early on in my career I realized how much connections matter no matter what industry you’re in. You really have to put yourself out there and talk to as many people as possible sharing your story because you never know who they know that can help you grow into what you want to be.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I learned pretty early on that you have to be true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in and align with in order to really succeed in selling yourself/business. Motorsports is interesting because you have to find funding and sponsorship in order to race. I had to get creative and think outside the box to get sponsorship in order to fund my career. One piece of advice I can give is people are going to like you for you so make sure you give full transparency and be yourself when looking at collaborating with someone or another business.
