We were lucky to catch up with Zoey Chen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zoey, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was during a moment of unexpected joy. It happened when I made a bouquet for a friend . At the time, I had no formal training in floral design—just a curiosity and love for aesthetics. I remember selecting each bloom thoughtfully, trying to create something beautiful that would make my friend smile. When I finally presented the bouquet, their reaction was unforgettable. They were genuinely moved, and I could see how the flowers spoke to them in a way that words couldn’t.
That moment left a deep impression on me. I realized the power of flowers to convey emotions and create lasting memories. Despite not having an art background, that simple gesture opened my eyes to the beauty I could create and share with others. It planted the seed of a dream in me, one that grew over time into a passion for floristry and led me to embark on this incredible journey filled with blooms, creativity, and connection.
Zoey, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Zoey Chen, a florist originally from Taiwan. My journey into the world of floristry was inspired by a love for aesthetics and a passion for creating beauty with my hands. I didn’t have an artistic background, yet I always had a strong sense for colors and a desire to craft things that make people happy.
Six years ago, I moved to the United States, marking a major turning point in my life. The transition brought anxiety and challenges, from language barriers to starting over in a new industry. I decided to embark on a path of self-discovery and entrepreneurship. During a return trip to Taiwan, I reconnected with floral classes and had an epiphany: I wanted to turn this passion into a career. I then pursued further training in the UK, where I learned comprehensive floral art techniques, setting me on my professional journey as a wedding florist.
As a wedding florist, I offer full-scale floral designs that bring a couple’s vision to life. We handles everything from the bride’s bouquet to large ceremony arches, aisle arrangements, and table settings. Our focus is on creating natural, romantic, and dreamy atmospheres using delicate, seasonal blooms. What sets us apart is our bold use of these fragile, ethereal flowers that add a light and airy essence to our creations. We take pride in carefully curating color palettes and floral varieties that not only complement each other but also make each wedding unique and memorable.
We understand that weddings are deeply personal and emotional, and our goal is to elevate their special day with thoughtfully designed floral arrangements. The reactions and feedback we receive from couples—especially when they say our work surpassed their expectations—bring me immense pride and satisfaction.
Every arrangement is crafted with great care and attention to detail, and we are committed to constantly learning and evolving our techniques to provide the best service possible. Our work stands out because we are not afraid to experiment and take risks with unique blooms, ensuring every wedding we do is truly one-of-a-kind and filled with heartfelt beauty.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
One thing I think non-creatives might struggle to understand about my journey is the constant emotional and mental investment that comes with being a creative. Floristry, for example, isn’t just about arranging flowers, it’s about pouring your heart into every design and feeling the pressure to make something beautiful and meaningful each time. There’s a vulnerability that comes with this work, as each piece reflects a part of who you are. It’s not simply a job—it’s deeply personal.
The creative process also involves a lot of unseen effort. There’s extensive planning, learning new techniques, and perfecting even the smallest details. It’s not always glamorous; there are days filled with self-doubt, frustration, and the pressure of meeting expectations. Yet, the reward of creating something that brings genuine joy to others makes it all worthwhile. Understanding this emotional journey might help people appreciate the depth and dedication that go into every creative endeavor.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is witnessing the emotional impact of my work on others. There’s nothing quite like seeing the joy and awe in a couple’s eyes when they see their wedding venue transformed with the floral arrangements I’ve created. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that something I poured my heart into can make such a significant moment even more special.
Hearing clients say that my work surpassed their expectations or that it added magic to their day fills me with immense pride. It reminds me why I chose this path—to use my art to create unforgettable memories and touch people’s hearts through the beauty of flowers. That genuine connection and knowing I’ve contributed to a meaningful experience is what makes it all worthwhile.
