Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zoe Germaine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zoe , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission is to tell love stories through honest, emotional, and artful imagery. I’m passionate about capturing more than just beautiful moments—I want my clients to look back at their photos and feel everything they felt on that day. The laughter, the nervous butterflies, the quiet in-between moments—they all matter.
For weddings, I aim to document love in a way that feels timeless and true to each couple. I want people to look at their gallery years down the road and be transported right back to that moment. With boudoir, it’s about empowerment—helping women feel confident, seen, and beautiful exactly as they are. And with maternity sessions, it’s about honoring the magic of motherhood—those soft, powerful, fleeting moments before everything changes. Capturing the connection between a mother and her growing baby is something I truly cherish.
This mission matters to me because I believe memories deserve to be preserved with intention and heart. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful in their story—whether it’s the start of a marriage, a season of self-love, or the anticipation of new life. That’s what fuels me.
At the heart of everything I do is the goal to make my clients feel seen, celebrated, and deeply connected

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Zoe, the face behind Written in the Stars Photography—your professional third wheel and hype woman. I’m a wedding, elopement, maternity, and boudoir photographer based in Colorado, and my brand is all about capturing love stories that feel magical, emotional, and true. My work is rooted in storytelling and energy—moody edits, lots of movement, zero stiff posing. Think spinning, running, twirling in the wind… anything that feels natural, fun, and authentically romantic.
At my core, I’m a wedding photographer. I live for the vows that make everyone cry, the little glances during speeches, and the chaotic dance floor energy once the formalities are over. I don’t just show up to take pretty pictures—I want to document what your love feels like. I want your gallery to take you back to the moment your stomach flipped walking down the aisle or the way your partner held your hand like it was the only thing grounding them. That’s the good stuff—and it’s what I’m here for.
Funny enough, photography wasn’t my original plan. I was set on becoming a nurse after having my daughter, juggling prerequisites and bartending at night. But when a friend asked me to do her maternity shoot, something clicked. I borrowed from my childhood roots (where I used to steal my dad’s camera to stage fashion shows with my siblings), grabbed a camera, and dove in. I posted those first photos on Facebook just for fun—and within days, people started asking how much I charged. My passion took off from there.
After a few years of finding my niche, my heart kept pulling me toward connection—capturing couples wildly in love, women owning their power, and mamas in that soft, sacred season before baby arrives. As a girl mom of two, maternity sessions hold a special place in my heart. That fleeting glow, the quiet anticipation, the way love already exists before the baby is even born—it’s magic I never get tired of documenting.
I also offer boudoir sessions, which I see as a celebration of confidence, softness, power, and everything in between. It’s about showing up as you are and feeling damn good doing it.
The name Written in the Stars reflects my love of astrology and the belief that some connections are just destined. I married my high school sweetheart after three years apart (so yeah, I’m a sucker for a good love story), and now we’re raising our two daughters together. I’m also a proud Native American woman and business owner who runs on tea, rom-coms, and reading way too late into the night.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come—balancing motherhood, running a business, and building something that feels true to who I am. I want potential clients to know: if you want wedding photos that feel cinematic, personal, and full of heart—you’ve found your girl!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes! What started as a side hustle definitely turned into my full-time career—and I’m so grateful it did.
A few years ago, I was working full-time at an emergency pet hospital, pulling long overnight shifts, and feeling a little stuck. An old high school friend reached out and asked me to photograph his brand’s launch party. I hadn’t really been sharing my work or shooting regularly, but I missed photography since I took a break from when I was in nursing school and said yes. The second I picked up my camera again, it all came rushing back—I fell in love with it like I had years before.
After that, I knew I wanted to take photography seriously again. I had dropped out of nursing school, and something in me was craving a fresh start. A former coworker of mine gave me the push I needed—she encouraged me to go all in, rebrand in a way that felt true to me, and actually envision this as my full-time career. I started listening to every podcast I could find on photography and business, learning how to attract the clients I truly wanted to work with. I reinvested in better gear, built a new website, and started showing up for my business—even while still working full time.
To shift away from nights and weekends, I took a job as a school nurse at my daughter’s school. It was a more stable schedule, and it gave me space to really build momentum. I started booking more and more couples sessions and found myself spending every weekend shooting across Colorado. Eventually, weddings started filling my calendar—even midweek ones. That’s when the balancing act started getting tough.
At the school, I was the primary caretaker for a student with diabetes, and there were very few people trained to cover my role. It was a lot of responsibility, and it made it harder and harder to take time off for photography. That’s when I realized: I couldn’t keep splitting my energy anymore. My business was growing, my calendar was filling up, and I knew I had to make the leap.
Leaving my full-time job was scary—but I’ve never looked back. Now I get to photograph love stories and document people in the most meaningful seasons of their lives. It’s a dream I built step by step, and it’s been worth every late night and leap of faith.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think what helped me build my reputation is how much I genuinely care about the people I work with—not just as clients, but as humans with stories that matter. I always try to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and comfortable being themselves. Whether it’s a wedding day or a quiet maternity session, I want them to feel like I’m more than just the person behind the camera—I’m someone who’s in their corner the entire time.
When couples are searching for a wedding photographer, of course they’re drawn to a style they love—but what they really remember is the connection they had with their photographer. After all, I’m the one they’ll be with for most of the biggest day of their lives. That relationship matters. I want my couples to feel like they have a friend by their side—someone they can laugh with, cry with, and trust to catch all the real moments.
A lot of the reviews I’ve gotten mention how it felt like a friend was taking their photos, and that means everything to me. I bring warmth, conversation, and a little humor into every session because I want people to feel safe and celebrated. I think that sincerity and connection is what leaves a lasting impression—and keeps people coming back or sending others my way.
