We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zo Doe . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zo below.
Zo, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I’m happier as a creative/entrepreneur. When working a 9-5 , you don’t have time to anything for YOU. It was constant headaches going home from the workplace and bringing work problems into the household. It was very frustrating having somebody that you work for telling you what to do, when to come in to work, what days you could get off, etc. For so many years I thought to myself, what it would be like if i quit this job today! How would I eat? Where will the money come from? Those are the type of thoughts that went through my head. Imagine going to work everyday, doing your job plus more, working overtimes/ covering people that called off shifts and the job didn’t care about your health or well being, as long as your job was done. One day while working security, I asked my manager to let me know ahead of time when I would be working a double shift, so that I can get enough rest. This came after I went to the hospital when my body shut down and I had a seizure, his answer was we don’t care , if we need you, you’ll have to come in. Instantly, I was like yup, that’s the final straw. At that moment, it was a wrap for me. I started to notice that these regular jobs don’t care about you or your health. After that moment, I registered myself in Radio Broadcasting school, because that was my passion. I started my radio show back, got into promoting at the club gig, and rebranded myself and started my entertainment company, Zo Doe Entertainment. I love the joy of working for myself, making my own schedule and not have to worry about reporting to anybody but myself.

Zo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Zo Doe Entertainment, “Bringing You All Your Entertainment Needs” Promoter, Radio Personality, Actor, Event Host, Content Creator I’m known for bringing the energy to the party and making sure everybody enjoy themselves. You can’t mention Zo Doe without Turn Up, it just wouldn’t be right. I’m most proud of my accomplishments in the industry without the support of people I grow up with and close family. What sets me apart from others is my ability to not give up at any given moment, no matter what, my work ethic is what makes me, ME. I have a podcast called Mental Health Mondays: The Podcast w/ my cohost Dirtty Eagle. I’ve been going through anxiety all my life, was diagnosed with Chronic Depression in 2015 and as of July 25th , PTSD, so I’ve decided to do what I always do and use my platform to help others who go through it and that has been the greatest gift ever. I’ll be mentally messed up but the physical drive won’t stop.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
In my opinion as a society we need to stop tearing each other down every chance we get. We are the only race/community that kicks somebody when they’re already down. We need to motivate one another, we need to stand behind each other. We have to stop being our own enemy because society always want us to fail and its systems put into place for us to fail, but that doesn’t mean we have to. Let’s get back to helping each other so it can benefit everybody around. Let’s start holding each other accountable for the actions we do, instead of making excuses as into why it was done.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part is having full control over your own destiny. Being able to do what you want to do and be as creative as you want, without somebody telling you it doesn’t fit their likeness.
