Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zissy Coronado. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zissy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
It was my Christmas gift in 2020 for my daughter to be born 4 days before Christmas, my husband knew it was going to be a transition to become a mom of 2, he bought some candles from Kylie Jenner, which I love her products. Fast forward to March, my uncle passed away in Peru, with no passport to travel, the only one who was able to go was my mom. To cope with the loss, my husband encouraged me to do some self care, and reminded me I hadn’t light up my new candles from my Christmas gift because let’s be honest having 2 kids is a lot of work. I began my self care routine and realized while I loved the candles there wasn’t a message, just a label and the brand name, that’s when it clicked, I should make candles with intentions, better yet with affirmations in the label where is hard to miss it and you’re constantly reading it, saying it and training your subconscious to believe it. I remember thinking wait I know nothing about how to make candles, that’s where my sisters and mom come in, I hosted a meeting/check up with my sisters, our mom was still in Peru comforting our family’s loss. I pitched in the idea to my sisters first while there was so many questions we were all in, made a FaceTime call with our mom and she was in as well. Step by step we were learning everyday, we split the work in between the 4 of us and we dedicated jobs so we can all look what we loved most about this new business we were creating and we knew we could succeed, with all the trial and error and the learnings we launched our products may 22nd of 2021 and with the help of friends and family we sold out our first batch, we’ve had to adjust and adapt to everything since then, but it has helped our business grow so much that in may of 2022 we signed our lease for what now is our store front.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We like to describe our business as a one stop shop for manifestation products, if you asked me what kinds of products we sell I would say we offer many tools for your manifestation journey, we offer our candles, planners, crystals, jewelry and so much more but what sets our store apart is our energy and safety to speak about what some may find weird or taboo. Let me explain, we’ve been writing affirmations in 25 cent notebooks since 2006 I believe, we came from a violent father whom my mom had to mentally separate from in order for us to physically leave, we used affirmations as a way of healing from domestic violence. When we moved to the United States, we were very young still in school, affirmations and manifesting wasn’t a topic we wanted to share with our friends, so we hid it very well and put it a side for years, it was when our uncle passed way that served us as a wake up call that this life is ours and we had to bring that energy of creating our own destiny back into our lives. We created our business and our store to be able to welcome anyone who wants to connect with their higher self without feeling uncomfortable. We’ve encountered so many beautiful souls in our journey of business owners, our customers stories is what we most enjoy about our business, it’s like looking in the mirror because we are talking the same soul language.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Tik tok! Tik tok became my best friend after I saw how much reach it could give our business. Adaptability is the biggest advice I can give any business owner, when we first started our business my sister was in charge of social media, after a 4 month trial she realized it was very demanding we hosted a meeting and rearranged jobs and I gave it a try in the social media, there wasn’t many change other than posting more constantly, I kept posting pictures and videos of our products but you weren’t able to catch me in any of the videos, until one day we went to a pop up market event and decided to make a video with me and my other sister in it and bam it went viral overnight our followers went from 120 to a thousand and so on, that’s when I realized our audience wanted to see us, how we looked and how we interacted with our products, now I’ve made so many videos and it still makes me cringe when I hear my voice but love when I see all the positive feedback afterwards.
