We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zion Richardson . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zion below.
Zion, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned how to bake from my Mommy. Baking is a science, you have to take your time, it’s definitely something that shouldn’t be rushed. The most essential skills needed for baking are patience and understanding. Baking is a science and there’s a lot of steps. The only obstacle that I face at times is when I skip a step or don’t want to finish a step. Then I noticed the baked good doesn’t taste as good or isn’t worth serving. Then I just get mad at myself for not following the process. So remember it’s important to take your time when you’re baking it’s all about being creative.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Zion Richardson and I am a sous chef at Brunch At Zion’s. I am also the lead pastry chef in charge of “Zion’s Cookies “. I’m also an artist, I love to dance, build, and sing. I learned how to cook from my mother who made sure I was exposed to everything from being creative, to cooking, the Arts ,and serving our community. I think we provide a level of service for our clients that makes them feel like family, our food is locally sourced, fresh, organic, and simple. I am most proud of our community events. Building a strong community is important especially to the brown and black culture.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think it’s important to support artists while they’re alive. Also, pouring back into the community and buying local.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’m four and I like to play, I like to do things fast and not think about it. With baking it’s different I have to think and I have to pay attention. So baking helped me become more disciplined. I love to see people enjoying my baked goods, it makes me happy. I love when my mom looks at me and says” great job baby you did good”.
