We were lucky to catch up with Zion Pullman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zion , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was around 6 or 7, I watched many cartoons growing up, I always thought to myself, how did they do that? For years in my youth, I would draw on paper, through comics, collages of characters. I originally wanted to be a scientist or an engineer, but the more I pursued the field of art, the more I realized, this was something I was meant to follow.
Zion , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Zion, I do a lot of animation, music creation, and voice acting. At an early age, I had a fascination for nature, planets, and even classical music. I did not know what that all meant until years down the line. I started drawing and eventually moved towards drawing on the computer, the thing was, most of the stories I wrote were based on my real-life experiences. I did not have an amazing start towards my creative journey, a lot of disappointments, things that weren’t necessarily fair happened and I did not understand why, until I got into animation, I realized, those moments were fuel to push me into my dream. Now as a professional animator, I have created a cartoon series based on my experiences. I have a YouTube channel that currently houses more than 5 cartoon shows, with different characters! This is something that took time and development. Now in its 7th year, more content is being produced!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To me, the reward of doing these types of animations and episodes is seeing the progress from the big picture. But most importantly, seeing the reactions from people watching the videos, whether they were moved by the story, or they were laughing at the jokes. Seeing it have a positive impact on people’s lives is a joy.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
One goal I really want to push and achieve is creating stories with a professional, studio-like look. While it is pretty expensive to have realistic CG graphics for an in-home studio. Developing the animations I have already created, is the desire to make them look professional and believable to the audience. Since so many events have happened in the span of my youth through high school years, I have so many stories to tell that I want to express in that creative medium. Even now being in college, I still have more stories to tell through the characters I have created.
