We were lucky to catch up with Zichun Wang recently and have shared our conversation below.

Zichun, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

When I was in primary school, I always spent my days sketching under the shade of an old oak tree in my grandma’s backyard. I filled my sketchbook with creations that captured the essence of nature. My creative path was Inspired by the intricate patterns of leaves, the flight of birds, and the vibrant colors of sunsets.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am an award-winning motion designer with a passion for branding and storytelling through design and animation. My professional journey began at Cision, where I collaborated with cross-functional teams to develop visual assets for marketing events and social media posts. After Cision, I joined CNN Design team as a motion designer. I am integral to the day-to-day production of newsrooms, television, and studio productions. In 2024, I started my journey as a freelance designer at College Board, where I creative engaging 2D motion graphics to complement course materials and learning objectives.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?

My favorite book is Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott. This book underscores the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and questioning the status quo—key traits for innovation. It highlights the need for empathy in leadership and understanding diverse viewpoints from different people within a team or an organization.

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?

I feel very positive about the NFTs. I think NFTs offer a revolutionary way for creators to sell their works, ensuring fair compensation through direct sales and royalties. They enhance digital ownership, brand engagement, and community building while enabling unique applications in gaming, entertainment, and virtual assets.
