We recently connected with Zenobia Jackson and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Zenobia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
As a former educator coming into the world of coaching, I believed I had to be like all the “big” name coaches, Lisa Nichols, Sonja Stribling and whoever else I deemed worthy. I would sign up for trainings, paying over 10,000 dollars for some of these trainings. Believing I would find the secret to their success.
Sadly, I always walked away still with no clients and less money than I had before. I would be so angry with the person who I gave my money to because what they promised I didn’t receive. That’s the first natural reaction right, to blame others for our decisions. I decided to stop the madness all together and throw in my coaching towel.
I called a friend and she encouraged me to read a book (Grace Over Grind) by SHAE Bynes. The rest is history. Being a Christian Life Coach, I had left the main thing “my faith” out of the equation and began to look to the world for guidance. I now understand who I am and what I have been called to do.
And I would always feel or believe myself to be unsuccessful if I continued to operate from a worldly standard instead of a kingdom standard. So grateful for second and third chances.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born a Spiritual Doula. To say I became something would insinuate I was not it before. As a former educator for 15 years, my passion has always been to help others push out their greatness. Many of my former students, colleagues and clients are unaware of their greatness.
Many of my former students, colleagues, and clients were and have been unaware of the greatness inside of them.
They allowed trauma, the traditions of men, and personal life decisions to dictate who they are and the truth is what we have experienced does not define who we are. Who we are has always been found in the one who created us, God.
I provide one on one coaching, group coaching and trainings to ultimate help people bring forth their greatness to serve a world that needs it. I do this by providing opportunities for them to reconnect with God. This process builds their faith and confidence in God and themselves. Clarity is given or restored and their identity and purpose is no longer a question.
I am most proud of seeing the transformation of those I serve. No amount of money brings me the joy I see as these men and women walk away with the revelation, peace, and joy that they longed for.
I want my future clients to know that my business is a Kingdom business. Building authentic relationships with real people because of the goodness of the Real God is what I’m about. I simply invite the Holy Spirit in and HE does the rest.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One size definitely doesn’t fit all in business. I realized that the type of Coach I am is unique, not because of the title “Spiritual Doula” but rather because of me, I am unique. The way I speak, teach, my life, all of who I am is being used to serve my unique clients.
I thought it was only one right way to approach coaching because of those I admired from a far, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. I am learning to be me. It’s ok to listen and learn, yet I have to make it my own.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My authenticity and transparency . My clients know up my faith in Christ and how I live to serve Him. This helps with filtering out those who don’t believe in which leads me to those who do, yet desire a closer relationship with Him.
