We recently connected with Zema Love Fire and have shared our conversation below.
Zema Love Fire, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful project has been teaching Rites of Passage programs for girls ages 6-18. This is my way of giving back and teaching them things I wish I’d known at a younger age. I want young girls to feel seen, heard, and supported. Through my Non-profit school The Indigo School of Light Inc., we teach our girls self confidence, anti bullying, affirmations, yoga, self- defense, holistic eating, body wisdom, meditation, various healing modalities like reiki, and herbs. It is a 3-6 month program depending on the age group. We also support young women entering college.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had a natural knack for anything creative! As a child I was heavy into music, arts & crafts and beautiful things! I grew up modeling, by fourteen I signed with a Company called Sebastian Modeling Agency in Dallas, TX. I also at that time had just signed a record deal with Top of the Line Entertainment, also located in Dallas, TX. Between these two opportunities, I learned so much about creative writing, recording, set design, performance training, event planning, marketing ideas, stylist/fashion development, runway, print, and studio recording. Through my Non-profit school The Indigo School of Light, I’ve been able to implement some of what I’ve learned into my kids. Teaching them confidence and how to carry themselves in the world has been a blessing to see them do better because of my programs. Many have graduated early and become leaders at their schools. Some of the other work I’m proud of is being a Doula. I became a Doula to support mothers to safely give birth while also having an advocate present to insure proper care is given. Black women have a high mortality rate while giving birth than any other race of women, due to a plathora of reasons from racism, poor training or being understaffed. I also had the pleasure of working with the Bronco Bowl in Dallas, Tx where I learned about set design and assembly for various artists like D’ Angelo, Kid Rock, and Bryan McKnight. As a Jazz Fusion Medicine Music Artist, I’ve had the pleasure to grace the stages of The Bob Marley Festival, Dogwood Festival, V103 Block Parties, Soul Sistahs Juke Joint, Kat’s Cafe and The Apache Cafe to name a few. I’ve also had the pleasure of performing in Beijing, China. I’m very intentional about anything I do. I don’t just put on clothes, I create a visual experience! I don’t just perform, I curate a healing temple that invokes inner growth and self discovery! I love life and finding ways to make it better and beautiful at the same time! I love living a life of purpose and function fused together.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think some great ways to support creatives is to give them a chance. What I mean is that people tend to only want the artistic expression of an already signed or big artist that is already worldly popular. Because of this so many wonderful creatives either get overlooked, or their ideas usurped by more popular stylist and designers. In the industry, most times because their is so much talent, it tends to be about who you know that can open doors for you, and not just what you know. We have to start seeing independent artists as having just as much talent and rights to be given a chance to share their art and brilliance as well.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes! The driving force behind my mission is love and healing. My goal is always to leave people, places and spaces better than how I found it. I want everyone to feel warm and supported in my presence. The world can be cruel at times, therefore encouraging self acceptance and empowerment in my work helps with the creative flow. I aim high to bring professionalism, teamwork, honest expression and beauty to everything I’m blessed to do! To see the outcome of good planning, execution and success is the best way to see and experience your purpose!
