We recently connected with Zelossie Whitted and have shared our conversation below.
Zelossie , appreciate you joining us today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
Years ago, a friend and I were working at this production studio together slammed with ongoing projects. We were really in the weeds hitting these deadlines, and I remember he said, “we are really going through it” and I suddenly thought to myself, “yeah, but we have to go through it to get it done. And maybe it’s not about what we go through but how we go through it.” It was a total ah-ha moment for me, but it does bring me to my point. You scale-up by going through the mud and the grit of whatever your work or business requires from you, and not quitting or stopping because of inconvenience. I was able to scale-up in my career because of my commitment and dedication to service. All work has the less than fun things about it but you can only move forward and scale-up by putting your best forward
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Absolutely! So, for those of you who do know me you may very well be aware of my professional experience in event management and production. However, I recently left a company at the top of this year due to lack of organizational structure and professionalism. Though, I was able to work with and help some really great organizations get their start, such as Ladies Who Golf, First-Tee, and The Institute for Responsible Citizenship. The amount of push back I got for pursuing and wanting these groups to thrive was very off-putting and sad. It made me realize that I would have to branch out and do things on my own to really make a difference. I recently obtained my PMP certification and will be moving forward incorporating that expertise into my career. At this moment I am working in the construction and renovations sector while being the interior decorator to a few private clients
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been my consistent approach. People can rely on me to produce and perform a certain way. My clients spread word and are happy to share with others that I helped make their dreams come true or put together this event for them. I market very well internally as well
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I am very innovative. I have such a growth mindset and I’m very curious about the world, everything of it, and everyone in it. Due to this keen curiosity I have explored so many different avenues and learned so much. I bring this to my work and it helps me to stand out
