We were lucky to catch up with Zelda Morning Star recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zelda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
If I could go back in time and had the option to start my business sooner, I honestly don’t think I would’ve. Though I am so incredibly grateful to be finally
following my passions and dreams in life by currently owning my own tattoo studio, I genuinely believe it needed to happen in divine timing. It’s funny how skills from different jobs that I have developed over the years have now shown value with owning my own business. I truly feel like I have been cultivating myself to be ready to pursue this path for most if not all of my life thus far. I think I needed to heal from a lot of painful experiences in my younger years before ever feeling ready to do anything like I am now. I had to really learn how to love myself before I ever felt even worthy of putting my artwork on any kind of display for others to see.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a custom shoe artist, I have had the opportunity to create memorial shoes for clients where I am able to not only design and paint a pair of shoes that will remind the client of their passed loved one, but actually connect to their passed loved ones energy and infuse it into the shoes so that the client may once again be able to “walk with their loved ones”. This has been such an honor to be able to create something so special, and it is one of my favorite offerings I offer.
Tattooing is another offering I offer that is a very spiritual experience for me. I believe that we take on the energy of the tattoos we get, and that in itself can hold immense power. Aside from that, I believe pain is an extremely powerful transmuter. I have spoken to many individuals about this (myself included) where individuals have gotten certain tattoos to transmute some kind of situation or energy, and genuinely felt different after getting said tattoo. I remember when I got my sleeves done about 8 years ago I was going through a lot of healing work at the time and getting tattooed about every two weeks. I was going to a therapist for talk therapy and then my tattoo artist for what I called, “transmutation therapy”. For me, this combination was very beneficial. I am currently working on an offering where I will provide signature energy readings for clients and then create and tattoo a custom design to represent that energy.
I also offer spiritual readings in person and online for clients. I have been reading/practicing the tarot for about 8 years now and have been reading professionally for about 5 of those years. I am able to tap into any question my client is seeking however my favorite readings are providing my clients with what their spirit guides want them to know the most at the current moment. We all have angels and spirit guides that commit to helping us on our journey here on Earth, and they are able to give the guidance our highest self would like us to know at any given time. Everyone is capable of doing this on their own with enough practice, but I am always grateful to be able to help those that struggle to hear or see messages from their guides and be the channel they may need at that time.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I think social media is a strange thing that no one is really ever going to understand though we all try to. I think the algorithms used to be a lot better when they were chronological, that way it was more likely you would see creatives you wanted to see and followed. These days everything seems to be reliant on whether or not you pay for your posts to be promoted. It honestly seems to change so much that I try not to focus on any of it and just put out content that I feel like I would like. I don’t want to be focused on how “well” a post is going to do, I just want to focus on putting out the best work that I possibly can. I used to only have 1k followers on Instagram for years until Dr.Martens Official Instagram reposted a pair of my shoes back in 2021. This threw me into the algorithm and got me to 10k followers within the year. After that, Instagram seemed to really change the way they showed content in their feed and I haven’t had as much luck since then. I think it’s important to put more focus on community than social media, and Instagram being so unreliable lately has really reminded me of that.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I think one of the most effective strategies for growing your clientele is to be authentically yourself. I believe we all have a particular purpose in this life, and I think the easiest way to align with that purpose is to follow what lights you up. When I really decided to dedicate to what I felt passionate about, the rest truly seemed to fall into place, and the right people seemed to appear all around me. I think that trust and flow are such important factors in this life. I’m not saying you shouldn’t go after anything, but I think sometimes things don’t work because they aren’t ready to yet, and that’s okay. There is no rush. Everything is happening all at the right time, you just gotta let it flow and trust in the universe, as cliche as that sounds.
