Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zelda Diana Black. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Zelda Diana thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Technically, I started putting myself out there and going for jobs last year. I had trained for 2 years prior. I try not to dwell on starting sooner or later and although I kind of wish I started when I was a little younger I don’t think that would’ve been able to happen. I’m from a small town in Upstate NY so there was no real acting jobs besides the local school play haha. Nowadays it’s actually been a pretty popular place for filming, but not when I was growing up. I think when I started pursing acting was actually the perfect time.

Zelda Diana , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Yeah! I’m Zelda Diana Black and I’m an influencer/voice actress. I got into this industry starting with being an influencer, I just did silly skits as Azula from Avatar the Last Airbender and then I started doing impressions which quickly blew up. Everyone was encouraging me to do more, impressions/voice matching was always a talent of mine but I figured it’d be a useless one haha. I never ever saw myself as the person moving to LA to pursue acting. I was becoming an influencer during the pandemic so there were a lot of new resources for voice actors to learn remotely, I took that opportunity and started taking classes. A lot of people think that voice acting is just picking up a mic and that it’s pretty easy but it’s not. There is SO much to learn about voiceover that I’m still learning. I’d say I’m most proud of just being here, it took a lot of hard work to get where I am and I’m still working hard to get further. There’s been a lot more challenges in the way now that I live in LA but I’m okay with that!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started by doing cosplay before voice impressions, and that content was very cringe because I was just starting out haha. I’m actually really shocked how long it took me to be a cosplayer because I love costumes and dressing up. But then once I incorporated the voice impressions with my characters, it quickly blew up. I mostly just do voice impressions now, cosplay takes up a lot of time and room (I have a small apartment now!) Advice is really tough. I’m also a social media manager as well and I feel like advice all depends on what type of content you’re making. Be consistent, it’s basically another full time job making content. With the algorithms constantly changing and trying to figure out your audience, it’s a whole different job within itself. Try to incorporate trends, see what you like on your FYP and what seems to be working, and just go for it. Trust that it’ll take time, it took me a while to find my niche!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
We need to appreciate animation and voice actors more. Animation and VO kept us entertained throughout the pandemic and now all of these animated shows are being cancelled – it’s heartbreaking. And we need to push against AI. AI voices are now being used to scam people out of money, pretending to be a loved one using a voice filter. AI is taking artists jobs too, not to mention voice over jobs. I can’t stress enough how dangerous and concerning AI is becoming.
