We were lucky to catch up with Zeinab Kachmar Zahid recently and have shared our conversation below.
Zeinab , appreciate you joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Houston is full of personal injury attorneys, you cannot get away from the billboards and advertisements no matter where you are. However, ZKZ Law runs differently. We are a small, family run firm. We know our clients and our clients’ cases, and they are not just numbers to us. Of course our business is still a business, but we strive to put clients first because we work for YOU. Our clients are our priority, and their satisfaction is what keeps us in business because they continue to refer us to their friends and family after their cases end.
When you call ZKZ Law, you know that your call will be answered and your issues will be addressed. At other firms I worked for in the past, we were timed as to how long we spent on a client call, as time is money and talking to clients was not considered paid hours. Your questions will not be rushed through if you choose ZKZ Law.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Zeinab Kachmar Zahid. I graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 2017 and began my practice at a small firm that did a little bit of everything, but focused on personal injury law. When I changed firms, I went to a firm that did ONLY personal injury law. However, both firms were not a fit for me. I was unhappy with the treatment of staff and clients, and did not feel valued as an attorney or as a member of the team. I knew that it was not sustainable for me long term, and I was not happy. When I had my son, I knew he deserved a better version of me, so I quit my job and started my practice, ZKZ Law, when I was about two weeks postpartum.
I am very proud that we are a small family owned law firm. I am proud that we have been able to sustain our family through our hard work, and I am proud that our clients are so satisfied that they are our main source of referrals. I want our clients to know that they are our priority, and that our family owned firm treats them like family as well.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy has been doing good work for people. Although it takes time, their referrals have generated natural growth for us and helped us to be known in the industry. Clients are happy with their representation and share their happiness, and our contact, with others!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There are not a lot of attorneys, at least in Texas, that are young, Muslim, female, and hijabi. It has been a journey, and at times a lonely one, making a name for myself. As a minority in the field of law, you are constantly having to prove your worth, and that you deserve a seat at the table. However, I believe that through resilience I have proven to my community that I am not only capable of doing the work, but also their best choice to handle their personal injury claim.
