Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zeina Karara. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zeina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Everything I’ve learned came from curiosity and experimentation. I really believe all skills are learned, you might have a natural pull toward something, but you only grow by trying, failing, and exploring. How would you ever know you need masking tape for your watercolors or that you can make cool prints using paint on your face and creating imprints onto canvas if you never picked up a brush, some paper or played around? Studying interior design taught me how to see emotion in light, texture, and space, and through personal projects and creative play I’ve learned how to figure things out as I went.

Zeina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a multidisciplinary creative and interior designer, passionate about how art and design shape experience. After starting in interior design, I explored other ways of creating like teaching art in a Reggio-inspired nursery and participating in a workshop-based art residency, which led me to graphic design, event and spatial design, immersive experiences, metalsmithing, printmaking, and digital collage.
I work across mediums to create visuals, spaces, and concepts that feel inventive and evoke emotion. I approach each project from multiple angles, blending design, art, and storytelling in ways that are intentional and meaningful.
I’m proud of how open my practice is, following curiosity and experimenting without limiting myself to one discipline. At its core, my work is about connection, crafting experiences and designs that resonate and leave a lasting impression.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, it’s when someone connects with what I’ve made. I love seeing a reaction and invoking thought through something I create. It could be a feeling, or even just a moment of pause. That connection is what makes all the effort worth it.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After graduating with my degree in interior design, I wanted to explore different avenues of art and creativity beyond traditional design. That curiosity led me to teach art through a Reggio-inspired nursery and later take part in a workshop-based art residency. Both experiences opened new directions for me. They helped me see how design can exist in many forms and spaces. Through that process, I found a deep interest in graphic design, event and spatial design, and creating immersive experiences that bring people and ideas together.
