We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ze Wang. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ze below.
Ze, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I would say is the decision of your career. I am graduating this summer so I’m thinking about starting my own business or working for a brand. among my classmates, some of them have already started their own brand. Peer pressure is not bothering me that much, I just want to make a more suitable decision. starting a business needs money or investment. fashion is that industry that looks fancy and glowing, but behind, sweat and tears. meanwhile, an internship in London is usually unpaid, and it takes time to work from an intern to a formal designer. how to pay my bills, is a problem. seems like every problem relates to money, but I think they are more than just money. every individual is pursuing something, becoming famous and big, running their own small shop, or having a happy family. I kinda know what kind of life I want, but on the way there are hundreds of decisions to be made, and loads of effort I need to make. I’m processing problems at my pace, even if it might be slow.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always love art, and I started drawing at a very young age. in the third grade in primary school, I wrote ‘Be a fashion designer’ and soon I forgot it (such a kid). turn to high school, I was sick, suspended school and faced my identity crisis. after resting at home for months, I quit to major in finance and decided to become a fashion designer. luckily, I got into one of the best art colleges in the world and majored in womenswear design now.
my vision of womenswear is drama-like, dreamy and historical. I want to provide people with high-quality natural textiles with clever techniques. I hope I can provide my version of answers to life through my garments.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
knowing yourself first then the world, I think I have more opportunities and aspects to look at myself and try to dissect myself and know what/ why I’m thinking. Sometimes I might not be on the way to the answer but I expand my vision. experiencing is fascinating.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I always get inspired by people/human beings. sometimes meeting different people and listening to their stories gives me others’ eyes. I think about ‘ why they do this/what makes them like that?’ it’s like building a person in my brain. it’s a mix of my ideas and others’ thoughts.
