Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ze Feng. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ze, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Being creative is deeply fulfilling, but sometimes I wonder about the simplicity of a regular job. Last time I felt this was during a chaotic project—deadlines looming, feedback piling up, and nothing going as planned. For a moment, the idea of a structured 9-to-5 felt appealing. But then I remembered: I thrive in the challenge, the freedom, and the ability to create something meaningful. That moment of doubt reminded me why I chose this path—it’s not just work; it’s who I am.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Zephyr (Ze) Feng, a graphic designer specializing in brand identity, packaging, art direction, and creative coding, with roots in both Los Angeles and Hangzhou, China. My work focuses on creating clarity out of complexity, blending feelings with logic to craft designs that resonate emotionally and function effectively. I help clients bring their visions to life by uncovering the essence of their brand and translating it into striking visual communication, whether through a logo, packaging, or interactive design. What sets me apart is my ability to merge precision with creativity, delivering thoughtful, impactful designs that connect deeply with audiences.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by the goal of establishing my own design studio and carving out a unique place in the industry. Like many designers, I dream of creating a space where I can fully express my vision, collaborate with like-minded creatives, and bring meaningful projects to life. Beyond just delivering great design, I aspire to build a brand that’s recognized for its precision, creativity, and ability to connect deeply with audiences—leaving a lasting impact in the design world.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I had discovered the importance of business knowledge earlier in my creative journey. Learning about pricing strategies, client communication, and project management would have helped me navigate the industry more confidently from the start. Additionally, resources like workshops, design-focused podcasts, and books that explore the intersection of creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurship would have provided valuable insights into building a sustainable career. These resources could have inspired me to integrate different fields and perspectives into my work while laying the foundation for eventually running my own studio.
