We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Zaza Asteria a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Zaza, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am happy and forever grateful to be living the life of music production and artistry. I never saw myself having a regular job or following any type of schedule that isn’t created by me personally.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Zaza Asteria. Music producer & Artist. Did the full journey from Prokofiev Music School (I was 6 y.o) to my Bachelors in Music in Los Angeles. Was mentored by and worked with multi-platinum producers and songwriters, learnt from many different vocal coaches in 3 different countries and now have grown my client base in LA as a music producer, sound designer, songwriter, engineer and vocal producer.
I listen to artist, ideas and understand artists vision first, then I make it my personal interest to guide and help artist get the best possible version of their vocal expression, song or project out during creation process. Then I take that and make it even better and closer towards that artist vision we discussed prior.
I am fully involved during recording sessions, carefully listening to the way an artist enunciates, figuring out where would be the best place to take a breath or what could artist imagine to trigger certain emotion that is needed at a certain place in a song, provide tips and tricks on how to handle certain melodies or a specific tone.
My company Asteria Space Sound Creation started as an idea of creative house.A community of non-exclusive, collaborative team of professionals like music producers, engineers, songwriters, studio owners, video producers, social media influencers, dancers, stylists and other creatives coming together to work on their projects, projects for clients and companies. Connected by one idea “Create and Evolve”. I found happiness in the process of making, finding solutions and exploring new experiences in music sphere.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Through multiple experiences I have come to a single very simple solution. I’ve learnt that it all starts within me. I chose my perception of anything. I make sure to pay attention to things that I like, people I like, situations, art pieces, anything really. I just really pay attention to things that I enjoy and love doing or being surrounded by, I remind myself what I am grateful for. If this type of attitude together with consciousness can be shared, learnt and spread more, it can grow into an overall higher number of happy people, which will result in growth of supportive, accepting, attentive society as a whole.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is ARTISTRY and CREATIVITY. We get to create everyday, that IS pure joy.
