We were lucky to catch up with Zayra Torres Colorado recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zayra , thanks for joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I started my business when I was 20 years old, and I have no regrets. I’m so glad I took the time to really think about what I wanted to do exactly where I’m meant to be

Zayra , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Zayra Torres Colorado I’m a Mexican-American from a small town in Kentucky. Growing up in an immigrant family, I always dreamed big for myself I wanted to beat the odds and create something greater.
My love for beauty started early. Doing my nails and makeup was always my happy place, and it quickly became something I wanted to share with others. I wanted people to feel confident, beautiful, and cared for the same way beauty made me feel. That passion led me to start doing lash extensions and later pursue esthetics school.
While still in school, I was blessed to be able to quit my job and focus on lashes full-time, thanks to the amazing support of my clients. By the time I graduated, I was already living my dream something I’m forever grateful for.
Coming from a small town, I noticed there wasn’t much diversity in lash styles, so I set out to change that. I studied lash artists from different cities, learned new techniques, and added my own creative touch to bring something fresh and unique to my community. That diversity in my lash sets has helped me grow and connect with clients from all walks of life.
Today, I’m proud to have my own small salon a space built on kindness, confidence, and acceptance. My goal has always been to make every person who walks through my doors feel safe, seen, and beautiful. In a world that can be quick to judge, I believe it’s so important to lead with compassion, professionalism, and heart.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Starting lashes as a side hustle at 20 turned into my full-time career and dream job. As my clientele grew, I was blessed to quit my job before even finishing esthetician school. One of my biggest milestones was opening my own space for me and my clients — it’s truly a blessing to do what I love every day.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A moment that showed my resilience was when I decided to go to esthetician school while building my lash business at the same time. It wasn’t easy, but I stayed focused and kept pushing through every challenge. That experience taught me the value of consistency, hard work, and believing in myself.
