We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ZayQuan Graham a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ZayQuan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?
It was 2017, I was beginning my sophomore year, i attended Kennesaw Mountain High School. I decide that i would join and participate in Track & Field. I quickly grew to love the Long Jump event, fast forward 1 year later junior year i grind my way to state where i placed 3rd or 5th i forget, anyway, I remember standing on that podium under me stood a placement i did not grind for a placement that did not reflect success. For those 15 minutes or however long i was up there on that podium it was silent, and I told myself that’s i would be back the following year and that i will be crown State Champion and uhhh the following year i was crowned 2019 Long Jump State Champion my senior year of running Track & Field. I tell this story because it took me 3 years to accomplish something others before me have been trying to accomplish since they were in middle school Club. It showed me where my power lies. That loss my junior year fueled the victory of my senior year. Thats when I knew I had a will power to accomplish anything I put my mind to, 3 years remember that I never Long Jumped ever before then and it took only 3 years of hard work and dedication for my name to be written in the state record book.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I believe what sets me apart from other in my field of work is that I truly and genuinely care about those around me. I thrive off seeing those around me win and being the best they can be. I am truly one that gives more than he receives so its always a good feeling to see those around me growing into great human beings, especially in times like these. Im most proud of being able to impact those around me in all honesty and I would like for those of you to know that im here to push and spread positivity throughout my works, weather its my skate team, jewelry business, or whatever I plan to create in the near future,

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My advice when managing a team and maintaining high morale within your team, you gotta put your team first. You must stay head strong also, character building is most defiantly needed. Get to know your team, its more than just your vision its theirs also, you gotta understand your people it’ll teach you how to go about them, assign roles and hold everyone accountable for their actions, being consistent and persistent will build respect in which you must give to receive. And patience. Patience is always gonna be a huge factor when establishing and maintaining anything.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I begin the funding for my team actually working out of FedEx Ground. I would work every week and put my earnings towards the team uniforms and events.
