We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zarah Painter. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zarah below.
Zarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
As a photographer, I am blessed to be a part in many meaningful projects. I celebrate the lives of my clients and document their joys, sorrows, love stories and milestones.
One of the most meaningful projects I experienced was the birth of a client’s baby. Child birth is a powerful and humbling experience to bear witness to. All of the emotions that flow in the moments following the delivery of a baby are captured permanently in the form of a photograph. This means that the family will be able to reminisce and feel those emotions again whenever they look at their photos again.
Another example of a meaningful project that I was blessed to be a part of was a photo session with a client and her dog(who was diagnosed with cancer). I took them for a walk through a local state park, and we explored together. Her pup had a great time exploring, and we fed him little sausages along the way. When I sent her the photos, she said that I really captured her boys character and she was so happy to have the photos that she can always look back on.

Zarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I first learned photography on a Canon Rebel while helping create my high school yearbook, but my passion for photos started much earlier than that. My mom could not keep a disposable camera around for more than a day when I was a kid! She would frustratedly, develop photos of our cars, pets and my toys weekly. When you love something, you capture it for eternity into a photo – that’s just what you did(and still do)!
I’ve always been an explorer — of places, people, and connection. Even after thirteen years of capturing moments and documenting the lives of truly incredible humans, I still get a rush every time I document a special moment. My heart beats for the wild, the weird, and the wonderful couples who want their love story told in a way that’s more than just a trendy highlight reel.
I want your experience to be about so much more than “getting pictures taken.” It should be about documenting the way your grandma squeezes your hand before the ceremony, the ridiculous dance moves at the reception, and the quiet moments in between that mean the most. You bring the love and the chaos, I’ll bring the camera, the support, and the promise that your photos will feel like you.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal has always been to create and be authentic. Creating art has always come naturally to me.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a small business owner within the creative community is being able to be authentically me. I am blessed to have the community and support that I do so that I can continue doing what I love.
