We recently connected with Zaphira Be and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zaphira, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
I love this question! I feel like the trend that is emerging is the return natural. Or rather more subtle enhancements. Botox and fillers aren’t going anywhere but there’s been a shift to the more natural look. People aren’t opting for the completely frozen look, they’re easing up on cheek fillers and pulling away from over-plumped lips. You can see it everywhere in pop culture and it’s pretty groovy. Think Pamela Anderson going makeup free at numerous events, influencers are dissolving their facial fillers and there’s been a huge movement towards non-invasive skincare to either remove the need for Botox or future surgeries or to make your work last longer! It’s incredible. I think people should do whatever they want as long as it makes them feel beautiful so the shift towards a more “natural look” is fun to see because our natural beauty is what makes us exciting and beautiful and if one chooses to enhance their look I’ve noticed it is so they showcase their natural selves and just make everything pop rather than trying to look like someone else. I’ve also noticed a push towards more transparency in what people are doing to their faces or bodies. Say what you want about social media but since there’s constant content being consumed and examined and obsessed over more people are choosing to be open and honest from the jump. There’s less gaslighting and gatekeeping because of it and it is so good to see. I am not saying plastic surgery or exaggerated looks are going anywhere but I do believe we are going to see a push towards more subtle enhancements.
Zaphira, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Zaphira Be and I own The Hidden Gem Wellness. I have been in esthetics for 14 years. I got into the industry because I used to struggle with acne tremendously. I was introduced to trade programs through massage school. I realized that wasn’t the industry for me and I was getting to a breaking point with my own skin. Once I got in my groove in the esthetics field I soon realized how much I loved it. Especially the skincare side. My goal is to age gracefully and age powerfully and I had a direct line to being able to do that. Throughout my career I’ve loved to learn about the product line and ingredients, how things are formulated, everything I could about how it was going to change the skin. I started to work with Helena Meyers Organics about 5 years ago and when I opened The Hidden Gem, I knew I had to have her skincare line. Helena handcrafts all of her products in Boulder CO, all small batch made. Helena Meyer has been around for decades and there’s a reason. Her products are unlike anything I’ve ever used both professionally and personally. My skin has never been more clear and hydrated. When a product line is this good, the facials have to match. I wanted to bridge the gap between holistic skincare and results driven facials. I noticed that a lot of the deeper treatments are paired with products that have subpar ingredients or are far too expensive. Helena Meyer Skincare is 100% organic and accessibly priced so that the results achieved in regular facials can actually be carried through to normal life. Knowing I was working with a line of this quality made designing my menu really fun and pushed me to invest in a Zemits Verstand Device. I had had my eye on non-invasive facial machines for quite sometime and when I started to notice there was a need for deeper treatments with zero downtime, I knew I had to expand my practice. I’ve been able to bring on Radio Frequency, Oxygen Facials and No Needle Maso-Therapy (think the ultimate microcurrent treatment out there) and the results have been breathtaking! I love that I can offer treatments to people who don’t want to do Botox or fillers or facelifts but still want those types of results. Or on the flip if one does partake in any of the aforementioned anti-age treatments all of my facials will help keep those results lasting. It’s the full spectrum of skin care at Hidden Gem Wellness and I love it.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth is huge in my industry. It is also one of my favorite ways to gain new clients. When we share with our friends / colleagues / associates about where we get our pampering, self care or whatever you want to call it, it is such a genuine referral. I’d never send one of my people to someone who did subpar work or didn’t make me feel good about myself. So it is such a delight and honor to meet my clients’ close circles and have that push my businesses growth.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I try to be vividly present with everyone on my table. I love that people open up when they’re with me. I like to pay attention to how people behave so it is pretty easy to figure out how to make people feel at ease. Whether that’s a full on deep dive into our lives or being in a comfortable quiet while they get their treatment. I work from my heart and I am wildly passionate about my industry and I want to bring the very best to my clients. When there is that much love in what one is doing, the reputation will build itself.
