Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zaneta Roman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zaneta, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am a lot happier as a creative artist and carry a different type of outlook, meaning and purpose on my life. I’ve worked and been a part of the corporate world and other things relevant to it and never felt more empty.
Something within me always knew there was more than what society would call “normal” when it came to the working industry.
Zaneta, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, first and foremost I’ve been an artist since I was a child. Starting from elementary I started winning various awards for my art all the way through high school.
After graduating and trying my hand at all of the “safe” career paths I realized very quickly working for other companies would be a short lived path for me.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunities I had along the way as it helped strengthen me as the artist I am today.
Makeup was and is most definitely one of the main outlets for me which so happened to pay my bills.
Between teaching painting classes at your local studios to building a social media presence, makeup became my reputation.
To maintain business, I handle everything from red carpet and films/photographing to weddings and special occasion glams.
As my expression outlet, I use social media to transform myself into anyone or anything and bring it to life through acting. There’s no limits to what I can become and that makes the little girl inside of me happy.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that I was stupid. Plain and simple.
I grew up with so many challenges when it came to school and academics that the systems didn’t know how to classify me back then. I’d have to be given special care and help to get me to my next grade level. As an adult I learned that I wasn’t broken after getting partial scholarships to my dream university based on my overall GPA and entry essay.
I then realized I just learned differently than the mainstream of the Texas school system. Back then, there wasn’t any guidance for creative wired children.
I’m not sure if that has changed today but any creatives that may be reading this, understand you’re not alone.
There’s more like you and a special place for us that I’m continually learning to pave.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal as an artist and social media presence is to grow a business that represents my individuality. It may take many separate attempts to get it right and to the place I want it but if there’s anything I want the world and my children to witness through me, it’s that I wasn’t afraid to step outside of the box and become something I’ve never seen for myself.
