We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Zaneta. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Zaneta below.
Hi Zaneta, thanks for joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I am a self taught artist who started drawing at the age of 5. I remember dumping out my sister’s drawing kit and got to work. In that moment I felt relaxed, occupied and intrigued how the colors on the paper showed beautiful shapes. Knowing what I know now, I would have took my gift more serious earlier than I did. But I did not ever stop creating. Becoming a young mother did become an obstacle in taking my craft more seriously. I’ve learned to not hold Myself back from drawing/ painting mother or not.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those who don’t know me, my name is Zaneta Luna. For 10+ years I have been painting for fun. Within that time I’ve sold my art, attended numerous art galleries /shows, and have done murals in my hometown. I do art part time with hopes of one day being able to create full time. What’s kept me going with painting even when it’s not profitable is my hunger to let my imagination out. My art is different but it’s an expression of who I am.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to un learn in the art industry is to avoid making it feel like work. If the opportunity comes and it’s not your style or feels overwhelming then it’s okay to turn down the job. Art should never feel like work. It should be enjoyable. Build a clientele that likes what you have to offer and watch the fun come to you!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I think society can continue to support local. Supporting local is so important and the best part is you can get some one of a kind work.
