We recently connected with Zane Haney and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Zane, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I think probably the most meaningful project I’ve ever worked on has been Unfix. Overall, it was the longest that I have ever had to prepare for a film and given the subject matter I feel that that was very well deserved. To learn about a topic that, first off, I had no idea even existed going in and then to embody someone who experienced such… Well let’s call it what it is-torture- was challenging in the best possible way and I feel like just expanded me as an individual. So yes, you could say I was extremely grateful for the journey.
Zane, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into acting at a very young age-actually had a little stint before high school, where I was about to be in a big movie and then didn’t want to cut my hair so the director pulled me. Needless to say I’ve learned my lesson. However I didn’t really understand how much of an impact I could make on people with my work until I actually got into high school-that was the first time a stranger came up to me after a performance crying and told me she really felt what my character was feeling. And that was the moment where I was like “Ok, lets go. Let’s see how far I can take this.” I’m most proud of the moments where I can look at it, or someone else can look at my work and experience a level of truth. I think once we break that truth barrier we are really limitless in our expression with the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Oh it would definitely have to be the new people you meet-both character wise but also people on set. The best is when you have the combination of the two and each set can really push you and allow you to grow as an individual.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
If I had to say there was a goal, I would really just like someone to look at my work and see that there is a living, breathing, human being there with a world of their own. own. I think creating characters that people can recognize and empathize with is the first and foremost goal.
