Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zander Krenger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zander, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I owe a great deal to my mom and my grandparents. They always encouraged and believed in me and, most importantly, they always let me be myself. I remember that in first grade, I insisted on wearing a three piece suit to school. There was no reason for this other than whimsy, and, while my mom pointed out that the other kids may laugh, I assured her that I was alright with that. From then on, she let me lead the way with my personal tastes in school clothes!
My grandparents bought me my first magic kit at FAO Schwartz in New York City. Little did they know that after years of mediocre magic, I would be a professional magician!
My family also always made time to travel, to see a variety of plays and musicals and to listen to me practice songs, monologues, dialogues, dances and auditions. In fact, last time I was home, my mom helped me set up ring lights and tape an audition from her basement.
Last but not least, I am touched that my grandfather was always the first one to begin a standing ovation when he was in the audience of any show that I was in.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I don’t have a brick and mortar business but instead have a wide variety of entertainment skills that I can bring to you! I am available for stage, film, television and as a magician for any scale event.
Furthermore, I have skills in hosting corporate events, voiceover work, film editing, and I’m even developing my skills as a photographer, too.
No project in the field of entertainment is too small or too large. I’m available for a family gathering or a large-scale production. I play the drums and the guitar. I can even make balloon animals! I also offer 1:1 or small group coaching and expertise for youth who are curious about the field of entertainment.
In short, if you have entertainment needs, I am glad to assist you and if it’s not within the realm of my expertise, I can point you towards someone in my network who can help.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding aspects as an artist is when I am hired for a gig solely based upon word-of-mouth. To me, this means that an audience member was so entertained by an event that they attended that they felt compelled to share with others.
Of course, it is also quite rewarding to have a visible effect on an audience. Be it in film, television, stage or live, I get a rush from knowing that my efforts are connecting with spectators.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society can best support artists by valuing them with their time and currency. As mentioned earlier, word-of-mouth is incentivizing for an artist. When others treat creatives and artists as if they are equal professionals rather than hobbyists, it helps artists to thrive.
