Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zalika Thomas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zalika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy will be the encouragement I give to others. Pursing your dreams is very tuff! It is easy to get a 9 to 5 job, you just fill out an app and if you are hired you show up everyday. However, pursing your dream means you will have to make countless sacrifices. In the end, with consistency, lessons learned from failures, a little support and planning effectively you will soon Win!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As I child I always wanted to work in the entertainment business. I went to college for accounting but one day I was at my corporate job and I felt like there was more to life. To make a long story short, I took a leap of faith and quit my job and became a full time runway/commercial print model and actor. I soon became interested in working behind the camera which lead me to filming, directing and producing. I currently focus on event productions, film productions and brand management. Some of the problems I encounter with my clients are the lack of brand development and lack of marketing. We are a one stop shop, we help define and develop your brand, film the content, book the talent and produce your launch party! I am most proud of the clients allowing me to bring their passion to life! Mainly, I would like for potential clients to trust Zstarrock Productions to get bring their imagination to life!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal for my nieces, nephews and the youth throughout my creative journey is to have a business they can either work for or a place they can get solid advice or funding to become an entrepreneur. So many of us grew up with families that pushed, become a doctor, attorney, teacher, etc however hardly any families encouraged their children to become a musician, dancer, filmmaker. I want to change that!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Building a good reputation about your business is so imperative. Sometimes you don’t need money because you have a such a good relationship with people. This results in having a good reputation, keeping your word bond, showing up to that event although you’re tired. Do the right thing, if your client is not happy build value and don’t charge extra for it. Be a genuine and consistent person. It is okay to help others just because you want to see them win. Although you may face adversity, come up with a solution and keep going, don’t give up!
