Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zakiyah Simms. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zakiyah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
I learned that if you’re working at a place that’s affecting your mental health in a negative way, it’s not worth the paycheck. At my prior job I started to feel like a robot and at that moment I realized it wasn’t for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a nail technician located in Jonesboro, GA! I started doing nails in 2020 when everything first got shut down. I started by practicing on myself and I watched alottttt of YouTube videos! After I practiced on myself for a couple of months, I started doing my friends and family’s nails. I’ve been my clients therapist and I’ve also created friendships with my clients as well! Overall, I’m very proud of how far I’ve come in just three years. Through all of the blood, sweat, and tears (mainly tears lol), I still came out on top!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect would have to be when I’m able to put a smile on my client’s faces! I love their reactions to the nails I do for them.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Before I started posting on social media, I was never one to use hashtags. However, once I started making content, using hashtags is what helped me in getting clientele! Another things that helps to build your audience is to be consistent in posting! The more content you have out there the better!
