Hi Zaire, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
When I was in graduate school, studying film, I worked at Target as a cashier. I needed something consistent to make money for books but knew I didn’t want to stay there long term. I landed an internship at Disney Television Animation that paid more per hour than what I made at Target and was able to thankfully quit!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Filmmaker that creates films with heart and intention. After studying film, I was motivated to continue to create on my on time. Along with working on the writing team for The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder, I love being able to collaborate with individuals who prioritize films for people of color!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Post everything on LinkedIn! All updates, accomplishments, promotions. You never know who’s watching and people consider folks for opportunities when they see passionate people getting things done! It’s also a great way to connect and meet people within any industry.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Save the Cat books are my bread and butter! There are so many for various genres of screenwriting! I highly recommend folks check them out for screenwriting structure.
